Six passengers are riding on the train of afterlife as shadows of their former lives without names, memories, or even their body. As the player character moves around and exchanges thoughts with the other passengers, they realize that one of the other passengers is closely connect to them and their past that they can't recall.

Passengers can see visions of their past life using the tarot cards, but the truth they discover can be unpleasant. And there's the mystery of what their final destination is, as all that's known is that passengers disappear from the train after a certain amount of time.

Train of Afterlife is a psychological mystery Visual Novel by Zeiva Inc, with some horror elements.

Train of Afterlife provides examples of:

  • Afterlife Antechamber: The story takes place primarily on the train, which is presumably not their final destination.
  • Afterlife Express
  • Alignment-Based Endings: Most endings are determined by whether the player's Enlightenment or Darkness score is higher. Enlightment comes from letting go of your former life and feeling peaceful, while Darkness comes from being curious and uncertain.
  • Ambiguous Gender: Nobody remembers their gender, and everyone appears as shadowy silhouettes of their former self.
  • Ghost Amnesia: No one on the train remembers anything about their former lives except what they can learn from the tarot cards.
  • Multiple Endings: There are nine of them.
  • Quest for Identity: The player can try to find out their past by viewing memories from the tarot card.
  • Splash of Color: Most of art is in shades of grey and desaturated blues, which makes the moments of red very noticeable.
  • Spoiler Opening: The opening video shows the correct order that the tarot cards go in.
  • Tarot Motifs: The tarot cards are based on the major arcana, although it's not an exact match.
  • Theme Naming: Wing and Wind.
  • Unlockable Content: The second half of the endings are not available until after completing the first set.
