YMMV / The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: A VeggieTales Movie

Go To

  • Awesome Music:
    • "Yo Ho Hero" by the Newsboys definitely counts.
    • "What We Gonna Do", sung by tobyMac under the credits.
    • "Rock Monster" is styled after the song "Rock Lobster", but is shorter and more punchy.
    • "Spanish Gold". The first time it plays it's just a fun little song playing in a dinner theater. The second time it plays through it sounds...dissonant, to go with the fact that Sir Frederick's about to be attacked and he doesn't even realize it.
    • The instrumental score ain't bad either. Of particular note is "Walking Rocks", which is the score for the scene where they meet the Rock Monsters. It's a suitably dramatic piece as George and Elliot react in fear and terror to the rock giants...until Sedgewick comes along and it switches over to twangy intrumental version of the old "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything" song.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: DreamWorks Animation, current owner of the VeggieTales and Big Idea properties, would be eventually acquired by Pirates distributor Universal's owner NBCUniversal in 2016. Now, thanks to the acquisition, Universal now OWNS VeggieTales!
  • Tear Jerker: George's relationship with his kids is enough of a sore point for him that any time they come up in conversation, the conversation usually ends up with him staring sadly at the floor.
  • The Woobie:
    • Prince Alexander. He gets taken captive by his uncle. Robert then forces him to watch a demonstration of how Robert intends to kill the King. Then he's given a Sadistic Choice where he either has to betray his father or let his little sister die. Harsh, especially if you consider the possibility pointed out in the Fridge Horror section that he doesn't actually know when his father's return is going to be, meaning that even if he agreed to help his uncle, he still ran the risk of giving the wrong time and Robert deciding to kill Eloise as a result , possibly even making him watch the execution.
    • Iron Woobie: Princess Eloise. Her dad's away, her brother's been abducted, she is being hunted down herself, and the "heroes" the Help-Seeker got generally act anything but (until Character Development sets in for them, at any rate). And yet she tries to be strong through it all.
    • George. He's actually a generally nice fellow, he's just so spineless that his own family doesn't respect him anymore and his friends sometimes take advantage of his inability to stand his ground. When he starts breaking out of his shell due to Eloise's influence, it causes rifts with his friends, and over the course of the film it's clear that he's carrying a lot of guilt around, whether something is his fault or not.
  • Tough Act to Follow: A lot of people say that this film didn't measure up to Jonah.
