YMMV / Solitary

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo: Season 1 had a task where contestants had to pick up and count thousands of rubber balls on the ground.
Number Five: "My pants were falling down and I didn't have a belt, so I had to concentrate on one of two things - my pants or the balls."
Number Three: "My booty was so sore. If anybody wants a booty workout, get on your hands and knees and pick up some balls."
  • Cargo Ship: Between VAL and herself/himself, VAL and any guest, or between the red and green buttons.
  • Elimination Houdini: Number 5 from Season 3 plays this, especially after beating a penalty round right after Number 2 gave up.
    • Number 8 from Season 2 sees himself as this.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The show debuted prior to the release of Portal. Try watching the show now without thinking of VAL as the prototype to GLaDOS.
  • Iron Woobie: Number 5 of Season 1 went through what was apparently a horribly painful divorce, but still shows remarkable willpower.
  • Memetic Mutation: "Give me. The pizza. Now." from Season 2. Despite the line never appearing in the show outside the intro, it became so famous that Number 5 was asked to repeat it at the reunion.
    • Season 1, Episode 7's title, "Everyone Goes Mad."
  • Nausea Fuel: The smoothie treatment in Season 2, where guests were forced to eat their favorite foods...blended together.
    • The scent test, involving the guests smelling disgusting smells, such as horseradish and roadkill. When this doesn't work, they're forced to drink some of the concoctions.
  • The Woobie: Any of the contestants could qualify given what VAL puts them through, but there are a few standouts.
    • Number 5 from Season 3.0 was definitely one of these, and would barely scrape by challenges.
    • Number 8 from Season 2, who often talked down to himself, and thought of himself as just a kid who'd gotten very lucky.
    • Number 5 from Season 1, who was horrified by nearly everything but somehow made it to the Final Treatment.
    • Number 9 from Season 2 due to his Butt-Monkey status.
    • Number 4 from Season 3, as his months of preparation for Solitary failed him. He bursts out crying when he has to quit a treatment.
