YMMV / Sniper Elite V2

Go To

  • Catharsis Factor: If the slow motion X-ray kills aren't enough for you, then the DLC mission to kill Hitler should be.
  • Complete Monster: Dr. Wolff is one of the heads of the V2 rocket program that Karl Fairburne is tasked with assassinating. To start off, he willingly sells out his own country's military secrets to the Soviets, and convinces his colleagues, including his own superior, to try to do the same. When Dr. Efram Schweiger, one of his colleagues, tries to defect to the Western Allies, he promptly orders his execution without any remorse. His plan to prove his loyalty to the Soviets involves the latter capturing a V2 launch site intact, which includes the Russians having his own country's soldiers executed, something he turns a blind eye to; the plan itself involves launching a V2 rocket loaded with an experimental Tabun warhead at London, and them promptly blaming the remnants of the Wehrmacht.
  • Difficulty Spike: On Sniper Elite Difficulty, starting with the mission to retrieve documents from a Soviet outpost, the game experiences a sharp spike in difficulty. Enemy sniper teams ambush the player starting the difficulty spike. The enemy snipers have perfect aim, reflexes, and later missions have multiple enemy snipers appearing in various locations to ambush the player. Two sniper shots can kill the player outright and the only way to locate the enemy is to have them shoot at you or get lucky and spot the light glinting off their scope as they take aim at you. Add in that the player has to account for both bullet drop and wind affecting their shot in addition to being wounded by an enemy shot throwing off your aim.
  • Fridge Brilliance: Why do you get so little ammunition from enemy corpses? Because both the Germans and Russians are running low too! Berlin is surrounded so the Germans aren't going to be getting resupplied any time soon and the Russians are at the end of their supply lines.
  • Narm: Multiple critics have noted that the x-ray cam shots start to feel a little silly after a while.
    • Karl's pre-mission voiceovers seem a little too macho sounding to be taken seriously, especially compared to the original game, which gave him a much softer voice that sounded believably like a sniper who habitually speaks quietly.
  • Sophomore Slump: Of all the Sniper Elite titles, V2 has the lowest overall review scores, with the PC version receiving 66/100 on Metacritic, in contrast to the other three titles in the series, whose scores were all in the 70s range.
