YMMV / Secret of the Stars

Go To

  • Cliché Storm: A party of kids, one of whom comes from a Doomed Hometown, gathers together to fight the ancient Big Bad and his team of followers.
  • Fridge Logic - At the beginning of the game, you have to get an item called the Star Crest. While several characters talk about how important it is, it is never spoken of again after obtaining it. It allows you to become a Pennon, the first rank of Aqutallion, giving you access to your initial spells. Presumably without it you can't jump straight to the later ranks, either.
  • Good Bad Bugs: If you don't have enough money when you need to pay the (incredibly pitiful) fee around the time of the boxing match, it underflows and gives you so much that you'll never need to worry about it again.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: G(y)arados, you say? Garados using ice attacks and able to avoid physical ones makes it even funnier, since that's typically the JRPG equivalent of water and fairly close to Gyarados' Intimidate, respectively.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: Having two separate groups of adventurers, both of which you must move and level up separately, if you want to get through all the gates and get all the treasure, is considered fairly arduous, especially since the Kusteras are mostly optional.
  • So Bad, It's Good - The game's "Blind Idiot" Translation turns an otherwise bland game into one of gaming's foremost examples of this.
  • That One Boss -
    • Garados. He use ice attacks, he can avoid your physical attacks and he can confuse you. The fact that you can only fight him with your main team while only having two characters doesn't help either.
    • Booth, second follower of Homncruse, is widely agreed on to be one of the toughest fights in the game, having very powerful magic such as Bomb Lv 2.
