YMMV / Mr. Hopp's Playhouse 2

Go To

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Dee/Isabelle. Is she a poor girl who Used to Be a Sweet Kid before being manipulated by the Entity or was she already evil and did bad things with "the Six" medallions on her own will? The third game seems to lean towards the second option since one of the totems says Isabelle had hate in her heart when she met the Entity, and joined him because she was promised luxuries beyond her imagination.
  • Awesome Music:
    • The soundtrack for the bonus stage has a nice relaxing, yet blood-pumping feel to it.
    • The True Final Boss theme that plays during Esther's confrontation with the Amalgamation in the Underworld turns the normally creepy Mr. Hopp's Leitmotif into an eerie, yet intense and all around climatic showdown music.
  • Catharsis Factor: Miss Beverley's death at the hand of Mr. Hopp is considered as this given her cruel behaviour towards Esther, especially after she's locked her away in the cellar for the night.
  • Funny Moments:
    • Miss Bo's chase animation, which consists of her curling up into a ball and rolling like an actual panda.
    • The joke ending references a certain magic conch.
Esther asked the Mysterious Magic Shell about what to do about the situation she was in. It replied "...Nothing". Esther did as was instructed, for the Shell has spoken.
  • Goddamned Bats: In the secret chapter, the "Shadow Bats" are particularly annoying enemies due to being able to follow you everywhere. They can especially be problematic during the final boss fight.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • Molly's personality and her dynamic with Esther in this game is quite funny once you find out that she's somewhat of an opposite to the other Molly.
    • Whether it's intentional or not, this particular line from Dee is pretty amusing given that she's later revealed to essentially be "the impostor" within the orphanage.
Dee: Do you hear it? The whispering... The evil roams these halls... There's something Among Us!
  • Jerkass Woobie: Molly. Sure, she might not be the nicest person around with her unfair playing habits and vain demeanor, but she still has some redeeming aspects and doesn't deserve being Dragged Off to Hell by the demonic puppets.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Isaac and Miss Beverley are both voiced by Elsie Lovelock, who then recently made a splash as Charlie's singing voice in the Hazbin Hotel pilot, the voice of Lila in Spooky Month, and the voice of Mommy Long Legs in Poppy Playtime.
  • That One Boss: The True Final Boss, The Amalgamation, is significantly more difficult than anything that comes before. First, whereas most encounters prior were the typical Advancing Boss of Doom, this fight requires the use of a new mechanic only introduced in the preceding area, as well as the use of the mouse, which shoots out a light attack with a short radius. It also has to charge and takes a couple seconds. You have to use the attack to hit the three heads of the boss whenever they descend. The problem is that enemies will constantly spawn in that same interval, requiring you to use your attack against them, while the boss also has several attacks that reach throughout the arena and are hard to predict and dodge due to your slow walk speed and crouch time, mandating you hold the speed button- but doing that while holding the mouse is quite difficult. And for one final kick in the nuts, even after actually beating the boss, any attacks it used beforehand will continue to fire, so if it uses the stalactite attack, the stalactites will still fall from the ceiling and harm you, meaning that you can finally win the actual fight only to get killed in the following cutscene. Your only hope is to be good enough that you keep a lot of health at the end- and you only have five health points throughout the whole fight, with only one recharge in the middle- and hope the computer doesn't screw you over.
  • That One Level:
    • The beginning section of the fifth chapter, The Loop, can be quite tricky. While trying to bypass the Three Curses patrolling in the open hallway isn't the main issue as all you have to do is remain still when they show up, the game tasks you to put 4 vases on their perspective podium, which is placed in that particular hallway. Additionally, you can't run when carrying the vase and you can only take one at a time. Combined with the added traps that will make you drop the vase upon taking damage as you progress further, and you have yourself a tedious level to complete.
    • In order to obtain all The Six, some special stages fall into this as well.
      • 4th Special Stage: You have to navigate through multiple hands that serve as platforms to get across to the other side where the medallion resides. The only problem is that the hands disappear rather quickly as soon as you land on them, prompting you to move quickly. One misstep and you have to restart the whole thing.
      • 5th Special Stage: You have to survive through multiple attacks within given time, such as a crushing ceiling, falling stalactites, and shadowy spikes. The ceiling in particular is a nasty one as it'll kill you instantly if you don't find a safe spot to avoid it, so if you can't find one in time, it's over.
  • The Woobie:
    • Esther. First of all, she's continuously haunted by Mr. Hopp alongside Mr. Stripes and Miss Bo in her dreams even before finding the actual plushies; when she does, things get even worse. All her friends start disappearing, which caps off with the Entity alongside Isabelle doing everything to try and make her break down. You can't help but feel sorry for poor girl, and that's without counting the fate she will meet in the first game...
    • Pretty much every kid and matron of the orphanage count as they're also unwitting victims (except Beverley, who is an Asshole Victim).
