The Show:

  • Broken Base: Phil's suspension that came about at the end of 2013 after he stated his opinion on gays in an interview with GQ. Some felt the suspension was deserved because Phil made some rather unfortunate comments where he declared homosexuality to be sinful and "illogical". Others, particularly members of the show's large Southeastern USA fanbase (a part of the country known for usually being more conservative both politically and religiously), feel A&E are just covering their ass and that Phil should not be suspended for simply voicing his personal religious beliefs. And others still feel the interviewer deliberately asked those questions knowing what Phil's response would be. Still others have called the whole thing a publicity stunt, given that the entirety of Phil's suspension occurred when no episodes were scheduled for filming.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Everybody loves Si.
  • Fridge Brilliance: In "Jerky Boys", Phil takes Willie around his land to show which parts go to each of his sons. Willie is disappointed by the piece he will inherit, with a pipeline going through. Why would Phil give Willie the scrubbiest piece of land and make a point of showing it to him? Because Phil has already turned the Duck Commander business over to Willie, and wanted him to know that this meant his brothers would get better parts of his property to compensate and be fair to them.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • As Si's declared legally blind in "Spring Pong Cleaning", pretty much every time he's seen driving prior to that episode can become this, especially when he was teaching Sadie to drive. Less so when one reads his book, Si Cology, which reveals he isn't blind and the scene in question was Kayfabe.
    • In "Fowl Play", Jase tells Si to create a diversion by faking an illness or injury. He makes a joke about having a seizure- Jase's brother Jep would nearly die from having a seizure in a deer stand in October 2014.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: In the episode I'm Dreaming of a Redneck Christmas, Jase decorates Phil and Kay's roof with lights that spell out "JOY!" Once lit up, the lights spell out "OY!" instead. Happy Holidays, Jase!
  • Nightmare Fuel: Phil Robertson gave an interview in which he spoke about the hypothetical rape, torture and murder of an atheist family. It's not for the faint of heart.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids?: Discussed in the episode Aloha, Robertsons, where Si is complaining about the film Ted being crude and how the main character was a substance abuser (which leads into a segment where Si is commenting on how other fictional bear characters are going to start lives of crime), while Jase is trying to explain to him that, just because a movie features a teddy bear as the main character, doesn't mean it's "family-friendly".

The 2014 Licensed Game:

  • Ensemble Dark Horse: "Cousin" Beaux, an original character made exclusively for the game, got popular thanks to Chip Cheezum's playthrough, mainly due to his unintended mysteriousness (the Remember the New Guy? attitude the Robertsons put on him, the fact that he has a voice actor while the real life John Luke doesn't, and the fact that when he drives away, there's always a loud crash sound heard once he vanishes from the player's field of vision; in one instance, checking his truck shows that he's not there at all, leading many to view him as a ghost).
  • Padding: The plot is mainly centered around various hunting minigames and stealth sections that add nothing to what little story the game has, only serving to stretch the game's already short length.
  • The Problem with Licensed Games: The game itself is a dull mess, with poor graphics, sluggish controls, and repetitive gameplay.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: Boat racing, mainly due to the sluggish controls, and the unfair Rubber-Band A.I. that could snag your victory away even if you've been in first place a majority of the race. Not helping is that it's one of the recurring parts of the game.
  • Unintentional Uncanny Valley: The in-game graphics and animations make the characters seem like poorly-made marionettes. Not helping is the constant switching between the poor models and stock footage from the live-action show.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: Even though the character models are far from awesome, the environments, particularly the marshlands, aren't that bad looking given the game's lack of budget.
