YMMV / Bayonetta: Bloody Fate

Go To

  • Anti-Climax Boss: Balder and Jubileus are effortlessly defeated by Bayonetta and Jeanne with unsatisfying ease. The villains combating the witches never even get a punch in and the heroines don't even break a sweat in killing them.
  • Awesome Music: The ending theme, Night, I Stand (available in both English and Japanese), is a melancholy, but energetic track sung by Mai Fujisawa (who is the daughter of Joe Hisaishi) that sells the tragic undertones of Bayonetta's character, while being badass at the same time.
  • Base-Breaking Character: Bayonetta. Either you love how the film stays true to keeping her as the beloved character from the original video game, or absolutely dislike her for being a boring Invincible Hero who's never truly in danger. The only character whom she ever has any actual difficulty with is Jeanne early on, who never had any intention of killing her anyway.
  • Funny Moments: The scene where Bayonetta confronts Luka after taking a bath with Cereza. Luka gets too distracted by her wet, bouncing breasts that he ends up falling out of the window, and then Cereza says, "Look, the old guy is dead!"
  • Genius Bonus: Bayonetta's pre-Scarborough Fair guns are called Elfin Knight. "Elfin Knight" is an obscure Scottish folk ballad that was an early version of the song that would become "Scarborough Fair".
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Luka is the Adaptational Comic Relief in this movie; while he had his goofball moments in the first game, he was also much more competent. It turns out, Bayonetta 2 also takes a similar approach like the movie, making Luka much more silly for comedic value.
  • The Scrappy: The film's version of Enzo has grown into this for a few fans. Not only is he an overweight mob boss who brags about killing others, but he completely gets off scott-free for all of his actions. It also doesn't help that most of his lines are nothing but painful exposition.
  • So Okay, It's Average: The general consensous of the anime. It isn't perfect and the anime falls flat in certain areas, thanks to it compressing a long multi-hour game into a two hour film, meaning good chunks of game's story and Character Development had to be altered and removed so it can all fit within the runtime, but it's ultimately a servicable and faithful adaptation of the game that has beautiful animation and great fight scenes.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Some people didn't like how Luka's goofy moments were doubled down on while his actual competence was severly downplayed.
  • Squick: The rather kinky way Bayonetta and Jeanne take down Jubileus (and by proxy, Balder) comes off somewhat incestuous when you take into account that Balder is Bayonetta's father...
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Bayonetta comes across as one due to her smug attitude and lack of concern for anyone but herself. The fact that she just somehow breezes through every enemy in the movie doesn't help her case, either.
