"Who are you?"
"I'm you, but wilted-er."

"As Lilith prepares to set out on her own journey across this wilting Kalos, the Voices swoop in to do the same. And with her power, they can do something previously thought impossible — resurrecting Old Amber, the fossil god of Balance, who had previously been lost to a spiritless world created during the Gauntlet. However, the Old Amber they revive is not the one that the Voices have come to know after all these years."
Newbies-Lore, TPP Lore Summaries

Twitch Plays Pokémon (TPP) is a series of social experiments in which commands representing buttons on an original Nintendo 3DS (up, down, left, right, A, B, X, Y, L, R, start, and select) and touchscreen coordinates are entered into a chat on Twitch, and then translated into a game of Pokémon via an IRC bot. In short, hundreds of people are fighting over a controller. Throughout its life, Twitch Plays Pokémon has spawned hilarious characters, memorable moments, and even a few religions.

Twitch Plays Pokémon Wilting Y is the third run of the stream's tenth season, which ran from April 8th, 2023 to April 21st, 2023. The game featured is a hack of Pokémon Y named "Wilting Y" and created by Buffel Saft, which sports changes such a higher difficulty curve, numerous balance adjustments, all Pokémon available in the wild, and greater availability for rare items and Mega Stones. The stream used the "Rebalanced Version" of the hack up until the Hall of Fame was first reached, at which point it switched to "Insanity Mode" instead, which features purposely challenging battles sometimes to the point of unfairness.

Some elements commonly found in the lore of this run include the protagonist lthjittyy55o being either a robot ("Lithium") or a witch ("Lilith"), an Electivire taking the long-lost daughter of his late best friend Magmortar under his wing, and Yveltal being a corrupted incarnation of Lord Amber. Of course, all of it was, as always, fully subject to Alternative Character Interpretation.

Twitch Plays Pokémon Wilting Y contains examples of:

  • A Dog Named "Cat":
    • The team featured a Pinsir named "PIKACHU".
      dingdingboom: PIKACHU BEST POKEMON
    • A random Baltoy caught while making progress on Pokédex completion during Day 4 was named "Hitmontop".

  • A Dog Named "Dog": Numerous Pokémon caught while trying to complete the Pokédex received names that fit this trope, such as a Chimecho named "ABELL", a Stoutland named "dog!", or a Cubchoo named "Bear". Special mention goes to Unown, which was very descriptively named "The Letter A".

  • Aerith and Bob: Notable members of the team throughout the run included SEPHIROTH (Yveltal), Magboo (Magmortar), Magtwo (Magmortar), PIKACHU (Pinsir), and Dodries (Dodrio) on the Bob side of this trope, and !!iyyéééroff (Greninja), EleSHha!A♂♂ (Electivire), MadeInAbyss♥ (Dragalge), and AMBER6 (Aerodactyl) on the Aerith side.

  • Ascended Meme: One Eevee was named "HeyGuys", in reference to an infamous copypasta relating to its evolution Vaporeon. This was eventually subverted when it evolved into Flareon instead.

  • Evil Counterpart: Yveltal and Aerodactyl were both major members of the team for this run, albeit rarely if ever present in it at the same time. With them both being prominent Pokémon of the run, the latter one of the major deities from the lore of TPP and the former a plot-relevant mascot Legendary, a sizeable amount of players ended up picturing Yveltal as a corrupted incarnation of Lord Amber.

  • Previous Player-Character Cameo:
    • Pictures of Gg113ktyhh4w that were taken during Twitch Plays Pokémon Star briefly showed up while browsing SD card photos early on Day 7.
    • In-between attempts to defeat the Pokémon League in Insanity Mode, characters from previous TPP runs were added to lthjittyy55o's Friend List, allowing the Voices to battle against them (controlled by the Streamer).
      • Etr from Gauntlet X used a team composed of Togekiss, Clefable, and Snorlax, all three being Pokémon that were traded to her near the end of that run and only knew the move Metronome.
      • The first battle against ébneert from Rising Ruby had his main party banned due to featuring Diancie's Mega-Evolution (which does not exist in Pokémon Y), and thus instead used Pokémon from his Battle Box, leading with AZZ TTTXXSSS (Lilligant). Said battle was forfeited, and the Streamer fixed the issue, leading to a second Rotation Battle in which ébneert instead used Lg★ᶻᴢᶻᴢᶻᴢᶻᴢᶻᴢᶻᴢ (Cradily), fish (Kingdra), CEO’’(+ ~##~ (Excadrill), ♥ (Diancie), noob (Dunsparce), and Ditto.
      • Subverted with !!!0999 qq from Alpha Sapphire, which like ébneert had her party banned due to her Rayquaza knowing Dragon Ascent, a move that also did not exist in Pokémon Y. The game still refused to allow the battle to happen even after Rayquaza was deposited, leading to it not actually happening.

  • Replacement Goldfish: Magboo joined the team on the very first day of the run as a Magby, and soon evolved all the way into Magmortar, becoming a mainstay member of the team up until Day 5, on which a malicious input caused it to be released. The chat immediately went back to Route 5 to catch another Magby, which they named "Magtwo" and proceeded to heavily level grind so that it could catch up to the rest of the team.

  • Shout-Out:
    • Skrelp was named "Abyss" upon capture; some time after evolving, it was renamed to "MadeInAbyss♥", a reference to the manga of the same name.
    • Yveltal was named "SEPHIROTH", after the main antagonist of Final Fantasy VII.

  • Tragic Bromance: Due to joining the team and later evolving around the same time, as well as the Electabuzz and Magmar families being considered counterparts of each other, EleSHha!A♂♂ (Electivire) and Magboo (Magmortar) were seen by players as a duo of sort. As a result, after the latter was released and replaced with a Magby named "Magtwo" and commonly claimed to be its heir, it was a popular interpretation among players that EleSHha!A♂♂ took Magtwo as its protegee, out of friendship and respect towards its late partner.
