The "M" stands for "HOPE".

"First, I was called "PP". Heard Napoleon say it once. And after that, Pepe called me "Lazy Pearl". And now, there's a bunch of other names too. Names I don't know how to pronounce. It's just noises. Names said by my friends who had problems. I don't know what problems, but... I try to help them. Like leading them somewhere they need to be, if they can't do it on their own. Or healing their Pokémon! No matter who they are, I'll try to help them no matter what names they call me. 'Cause that's what best friends do! Right, "Kr "?"
Q♀♂♀r, "Our Rival's Name is...?"

Twitch Plays Pokémon (TPP) is a series of social experiments in which commands representing buttons on an original Nintendo DS (up, down, left, right, A, B, X, Y, start, and select) are entered into a chat on Twitch, and then translated into a game of Pokémon via an IRC bot. In short, hundreds of people are fighting over a controller. Throughout its life, Twitch Plays Pokémon has spawned hilarious characters, memorable moments, and even a few religions.

Twitch Plays Pokémon Renegade Platinum is the second run of the stream's eighth season; it began on April 10th, 2021 and ended on April 21st, 2021. It features a hack of Pokémon Platinum created by Drayano60, the same person behind Blaze Black 2, Storm Silver, Volt White, and Rising Ruby, all of which were previously played on the stream. As usual, it features higher difficulty, revamped stats and movesets, new types for certain Pokémon, and the ability to obtain all 493 species without trading.

This run featured a male Host named Kr (with a space at the end), who assembled an M-Team of Magcargo, Meganium, Metagross, Manaphy, Infernape (nicknamed "MONKE"), and Rotom (aka "Motor" backwards). He notably used his Red Chain to fish for Legendary Pokémon through dimensional portals, and spent a lot of time drawing on his Pokétch thanks to newly implemented touchscreen inputs that allowed players to draw Bézier curves. Eventually, he ended up defeating the Elite 4, their rematch team, and the secret opponent awaiting in the Battleground.

Twitch Plays Pokémon Renegade Platinum contains examples of:

  • Annoying Video Game Helper: invoked
    • During a section of Eterna Forest during which Kr was accompanied by Cheryl, a Shiny Buneary appeared; unfortunately, Pokémon encountered in Double Battles cannot be caught until the other is fainted. Knowing that Cheryl's AI did not make a distinction between Shiny and non-Shiny Pokémon, the chat desperately tried to either flinch or faint her Chansey, but failed to do so before it took down Buneary.
    • Later on, the same situation repeated itself as Kr and Mira encountered a Shiny Gible; Mira's Kadabra immediately took down Gible with a Dazzling Gleam attack before the Voices were able to do anything about it.

  • Ascended Meme: Most of the chat referred to 01QQQRTᶻzᶻz↗ the Infernape simply as "Monke"; after a visit to the Name Rater, it was indeed renamed to "MONKE".

  • Caps Lock, Num Lock, Missiles Lock: All of the Pokétch apps were unlocked from the start, allowing players to mess around with its various features. The most prominent was the Memo Pad, which was used to doodle using the advanced touchscreen controls, but it also featured an alarm clock, a calculator, a coin flip simulator, a roulette wheel, a match-up checker, and so on. Then there was the Link Searcher app, which when activated just triggered a communication error and reset the game.

  • Mythology Gag: After having been successfully rematched, the door to the Elite 4 was blocked off by a guard declaring that a shoe-wearing Snorlax had tripped itself in the elevator and now blocked the entire corridor, referencing the roadblocking "Shoelaxes" from Chatty Crystal.

  • NPC Roadblock: Once Kr successfully defeated the rematch teams of the Pokémon League, the door to the League was blocked by a guard who informed him that a shoe-wearing Snorlax had tripped itself in the elevator and now blocked the corridor, and added that he heard about a famous Trainer coming to the Battleground, suggesting that he should go check it out.

  • Plot Armor: The M-Team was equipped with Mail to prevent them from being released, then later got their Ball decorated with Capsules, which also protected them from release but with the added advantage of letting them hold items.

  • Previous Player-Character Cameo: The final boss of the run, who awaited Kr alongside the various Gym Leaders and unique Trainers of Sinnoh in the Battleground, was .iecbw from Twitch Plays Pokemon Gauntlet Platinum, using her final team of Torterra, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Arceus, and Lumineon. invoked

  • Pun: Rotom, who was used most of the time in its Fridge form, was equipped with a Magnet. A fridge magnet, if you will.

  • Theme Naming: The team for this run was themed after the letter M: Magcargo, Meganium, Metagross and Manaphy all have names starting with "M", Infernape was nicknamed "MONKE", and Rotom is "Motor" backwards.
    • Some players also suggested that Marley may be Kr 's girlfriend, once again following the theme of M-names.
