Microsoft will try to buy Retro
  • After Rare will outlive their usefulness to Microsoft, Microsoft will sell them back to Nintendo and try to buy Retro.
    • Considering they're first party now, not second party like Rare were, that would be an impressive feat.
      • If Microsoft somehow buys Retro Studios, and sells Rare back to Nintendo, that would be pretty sad and some sort of deja vu. Even looking at the success Retro had with Nintendo's games. But this is very unlikely. Still.

Retro's next game is a Pokémon game

Retro's next game, for the Wii U, is an F-Zero game.
  • It's a franchise that hasn't been out for a while, and it could utilize the online capabilities more.
    • Considering Retro's other big projects, Metroid Prime and DKCR, were revivals of series that had a lapse in release time, this isn't too crazy of a guess.
    • Jossed: see above.
      • But the game they make AFTER it could be an F-Zero game!
      • Jossed again, if only because... well, the Wii U is dead.

Retro's next game will be Metroid
  • However, instead of being another Metroid Prime, it will be in the style of Super Metroid. This is one of the reasons they worked on the Donkey Kong Country games for a while, in order to get more experience in developing a 2D game.
    • Half-jossed. We still don't know what they've been doing since Tropical Freeze, but they are going to be making Metroid Prime 4 once they finish their current mystery project, thanks to a previous development team flubbing the project.
    • But before Prime 4 released, we did end up with two 2D Metroid games courtesy of MercurySteam.

Retro's new game after Tropical Freeze will be Star Fox: Grand Prix
  • On the fence about this one myself, especially since Jason Schreier over at Kotaku double-checked with his sources recently and aired his own doubts, but putting it here since this has been a major rumor among game publications since May 2018.
    • Jossed. No clue what they were doing for most of the 2010s, but their next game will be Metroid Prime 4.

Retro has been working on a new StarTropics
  • A revival of the series. A more narrative-driven game with a linear style to counter the open-world exploration that the Legend of Zelda series has been going with recently. StarTropics was a series made for the West, so why not have a Western studio bring new life into it?
    • Jossed. Sorry, past me. Maybe one day, but for now, it's going to be Metroid Prime.
