Buried: An Interactive Story is a 2016 Visual Novel for PC, iOS and Android, telling the adventure of Roger and his logging crew.

Roger Hastings and his crew of loggers are working at their current site when something happens. It's not clear what happens, as Roger wakes up surrounded by debris and no memories of how things got to be so destroyed. He heads out to search for the rest of his crew and ends up uncovering something that should have stayed hidden...

The entire game is separated into five intense chapters. The main aspect of the game are the choices the player has Roger go through, which determine how he tackles various events in the game: how he will approach danger; whom he can or cannot trust and even choices that determine someone's life or death. Each choice alters the following events slightly.

What will your choices reveal about this game?

Contains The Following Tropes:

  • An Arm and a Leg: Roger has the chance to shoot his gun to save Dennis from the entities but knows that doing so would blast off their hand.
  • Dialogue Tree: Roger's response to most events are determined by two options the player is presented with.
  • Gorn: Some of the corpses found are described as having 'melted into the ground' or having been torn inside out.
  • Light Is Not Good: The entities are described as being made of light, but they are not good. They are pretty brutal murderers.
  • Mercy Kill: Dr Khanna asks Roger of this when they meet in the other dimension. Whether he goes through with it is up to the player.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: This is Roger's reaction to seeing the sky if the player has previously chosen to head towards the orange world for the ending.
  • Never Found the Body: Amy says that Dr Khanna disappeared when his instant transmission experiment was performed. He's in an alternate dimension, where the entities are at home.
    • Also happens to Barksdale, Marcus, and either Dennis or Amy depending on who you save when you destroy the facility.
  • Sanity Slippage: Marcus suffers from it when they investigate the facility. Strikland mentions that Barksdale has become unhinged from the failed experiment's results.
  • Shout-Out: Amy's description on how they accomplish instant transmission is the same as used for Star Trek.
  • Teleportation: What the facility was attempting and succeeding at on Amy's floor. They have managed to use instant transmission to send a lab rat from their location to one in New Mexico. They also managed to do it with humans, with most of them making it unharmed. Most.
  • You Cannot Grasp the True Form: Roger's narration says his mind cannot make sense of the light-based entities, but simplifying it by making comparisons to spiders and squids.
