- Creator's Oddball: Oliver Stone is mostly known for R-rated politically charged action movies and, of course, being a conspiracy theorist. Here, he directs a low key PG-13 drama with zero political undertones, focusing on two individuals, their families, and the first responders who were experienced the horrors of 9/11.
- DVD Commentary: By several of the actual police and rescue workers depicted in the film, including one of the trapped men.
- Playing Against Type: Nicolas Cage is usually a Large Ham. Here he’s an incredibly subdued police sergeant desperately trying to survive a horrific situation.
- What Could Have Been:
- Oliver Stone's first two choices for John McLoughlin were George Clooney, and Mel Gibson. Gibson liked the script, but was busy making Apocalypto. John Travolta turned down the role after playing a similar part in Ladder 49.
- At one point, the film was going to star Kevin Costner and Hilary Swank.
