Trivia / The Shnookums & Meat Funny Cartoon Show

  • Acting for Two: Jess Harnell, Jim Cummings, and Brad Garrett voice several characters in the Tex Tinstar and Pith Possum segments.
  • Executive Meddling: Of all the western tropes lampooned in the Tex Tinstar segments, one that Disney wouldn't let the writers use was the Damsel in Distress, rejecting it as sexist (even though the trope was to be parodied by having the character, named Monica Betty Lou Sue Veronica, spend her screen time pummeling her kidnappers), leading the crew to replace her with a safe to serve as a McGuffin. Disney's desire for more proactive female characters also led to the creation of the Pith Possum character Pearl.
  • Follow the Leader: As mentioned, this aired at a time when The Ren & Stimpy Show was at its height, and was often accused of copying the show.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: No episodes have been released on VHS or DVD, and it's unlikely they will be released anytime soon. It also has the sad distinction of being one of only two shows from The Disney Afternoon to not be on Disney+ upon its launch in November 2019 (the other is Aladdin: The Series).
  • Screwed by the Network: In an interview with Animato!, Bill Kopp expressed concern over Disney barely promoting the show outside of the requisite on-air promos and a pasta line by Franco American, especially compared to Gargoyles, which was given wall-to-wall promotion. After the 13 episodes were completed, Disney left the crew in the dark for a while before cancelling the series despite decent ratings which, as Kopp mentioned, would've landed it a renewal elsewhere.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Had Shnookums and Meat gotten a second season, Monica Betty Lou Sue Veronica would've emerged from the safe to kiss Tex - only to turn out to be one of the villains in disguise.
    • According to Bob Jaques in this interview (about 45 minutes in), Disney originally wanted Carbunkle Cartoons to work on the series, but was denied due to their unwillingness to put up the same amount of money that Spumco did for Ren and Stimpy.
