  • Acting for Two:
    • Both Shellington and Inkling are voiced by Keith Wickham.
    • Simon Greenall (Barnacles), Teresa Gallagher (UK Dashi), and Wayne Grayson (US Peso) often provide their voices to multiple minor characters. The rest of the main cast would also get a shot at this, but Michael C. Murphy stands out for voicing every single Vegimal.
  • Channel Hop: In the United States, the show originally aired on Disney Junior until about 2016. After a few years, the show moved to Netflix. They commissioned a couple of specials and, in 2021, a new season of episodes with the subtitle Above & Beyond.
  • Crossdressing Voices:
    • In the Spanish dub, Pinto (male) is voiced by Consuelo Pizarro (female)
    • Several young characters are voiced by women, while Tominnow, the only female Vegimal is voiced by Micheal C. Murphy.
  • Descended Creator: Tunip is voiced by Micheal C. Murphy, one of the creators.
  • Fake Scot: Shellington is voiced by an English actor.
  • Non-Singing Voice: Barnacles is voiced by Simon Greenall when speaking, and his singing voice is provided by Ross Breen.
  • Referenced by...:
    • The series' lore is covered by Athena P's Lore series, in which she discusses the ins and outs of the GUPs, the biology of the Vegimals, and the evolution of the Octonauts themselves.
    • In the PAW Patrol episode "Mighty Pups, Super Paws: When Super Kitties Attack", Mayor Humdinger pulls out a fish biscuit to get his kitties to come to him.
    • In PreCure in a Nutshell, Pegitan is given the parody name of "Pesotan", since both are Nervous Wreck penguins.
    • In Episode 37 of Tropical-Rouge! Pretty Cure, a young Laura draws a slightly cruder version of the Octonauts' logo on a rock.
  • Same Voice Their Entire Life: In "The Walrus Pups", Barnacles still has his mature voice during the flashback of him as a younger Polar Scout. Averted in the flashback in "The Caves of Sac Actun", where his vocal effects sound much younger.
