Trivia / The Nevers

Go To

  • Channel Hop:The last six episodes were released on Tubi instead of Max due to cost-cutting measures taken by Warner Bros. Discovery.
  • Queer Character, Queer Actor: Vinnie Heaven, who plays Nimble Jack, has confirmed that like themselves, Jack is both androgynous and transgender.
  • Role-Ending Misdemeanor: Joss Whedon suddenly stepped down from working on the show in the wake of an investigation by WarnerMedia about abusive behavior on the set of Justice League (2017). While officially the reason for his departure was that the COVID-19 pandemic made it too challenging for him to continue as a showrunner, it later came out that the Justice League investigation had included testimony from Charisma Carpenter that he'd repeatedly mistreated her on the set of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, causing many to believe that Warner had intended to fire him but allowed him to step down voluntarily to save face.
  • Screwed by the Network: One of the many casualties of the HBOMax shake-up, it was canceled after one (half) season and the remaining six episodes were released on Tubi for three days without any fanfare.
  • Troubled Production:
    • Five out of the series' twelve episodes were completed before the COVID-19 Pandemic broke out, forcing the crew to shut down in early 2020. Filming resumed in September and production was completed by the end of October. The latter six episodes weren't ready for 2021 and thus aired in 2023 as Season 2 (and the series' finale).
    • Joss Whedon stepped down as showrunner in November 2020, citing the challenging difficulties of working during the pandemic and other personal matters (he was facing accusations of toxic behavior on the sets of previous works such as Justice League and the Buffyverse at that time). Related to the latter, HBO Max series executive Casey Bloys said that there were no such troubles on the sets of The Nevers when Whedon was still onboard.
  • What Could Have Been: Maladie's disguise as Effie Boyle was originally going to be a lot more homely, with buck teeth and so on, until the writers realized that would make her stand out more.
