Trivia / Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends

Go To

  • Acting for Two: In the first Japanese version of "A Firestar is Born" and "The X-Men Adventure", Toshiyuki Morikawa voices Spider-Man and Cyclops.
  • As Himself: Stan Lee acting as narrator.
  • Banned Episode: "The Quest of the Red Skull," which contains widespread Nazi imagery and even features Adolf Hitler via flashback, last aired in the US on UPN in 1999, when Saban syndicated the series for the network's UPN Kids block. It has never re-aired in any capacity since, and is not available on Disney+. It is available to purchase on various digital outlets, and surprisingly enough has still aired in syndication regularly in Europe (of all places).
  • Dueling Dubs:
    • The Japanese version had two, the first of which starred Toshiyuki Morikawa, Wataru Takagi, and Eri Miyajima as Spider-Man, Iceman, and Firestar, and the second one starred Ken Yamaguchi, Nobuo Tobita, and Arisa Ando as the trio.
    • The Latin American Spanish dub has three dubbed versions: One in Mexico, another one in the U.S. in Los Angeles, and one done in Argentina.
  • Edited for Syndication: The first episode had a slight edit due to the implications.note
Original Line - Angelica: Hey! There's that jungle bunny who was chasing after Peter!
Edited Line - Angelica: Hey! There's that jungle rabbit who was chasing after Peter!
    • Even during NBC reruns, the narrations from Stan Lee were edited seemingly at random, and consequently very few episodes still have them in current reruns.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: It has yet to be released onto DVD in America.
  • Late Export for You: This series premiered in the USA in 1981, but never aired in France until 2020 when it became one of the titles available on Disney+ at launch.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • While 2 Spider-Man cartoons aired at the same time (this aired alongside Spider-Man (1981)), this show featured Dan Gilvezan as the voice of Spider-Man, as opposed to Ted Schwartz (who voiced Spider-Man in the solo series). In fact, the only voice actors to portray the same characters in both shows were William Woodson as J. Jonah Jameson, George DiCenzo as Captain America, Neil Ross as Norman Osborn (not the Green Goblin, as Ross voiced Goblin in the 1981 show while Dennis Marks voiced Goblin in Amazing Friends), and Peter Cullen as the Red Skull.
    • In "A Firestar is Born," Cyclops was voiced by Stan Jones and Storm was voiced by Annie Lockhart. In "The X-Men Adventure," Cyclops was voiced by George DiCenzo and Storm was voiced by Kathy Garver (Firestar's voice actress). Averted in the Japanese versions where Toshiyuki Morikawa/Takashi Nagasako and Yoko Kurata reprise their roles in both episodes.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Per Wikipedia: "The makers of the show had originally intended the stars to be Spider-Man, Iceman, and the Human Torch. However, legal issues about the rights to the Human Torch character (which had also plagued Marvel once before for the 1978 Fantastic Four cartoon) led to the Human Torch being replaced by a new character, Firestar, who had similar powers, but was a mutant like Iceman."
    • Several names were considered for the female protagonist while the show was in development, including Firefly, Heatwave, and Starblaze.
