Trivia / SMPLive

Go To

  • Actor-Inspired Element: While the lives of the SMPLive characters are much more fantastical and bizarre than that of their real-life counterparts, some aspects of the streamers' real lives are incorporated into their character as in-universe traits.
    • Most commonly, this is in the form of a creator's past work being the claim to fame for an in-universe character, such as for AntVenom and CaptainSparklez with their past Minecraft content, and Junky Janker's past voice acting role of Gumball.
    • Several characters also have their actors' past involvement in UHC and other Minecraft PVP minigames as a character trait, such as Cooper, Poke, and Billy.
  • Artist Disillusionment: Some streamers felt this towards the fanbase, particularly the stans on Twitter, as well as towards the server itself. One such example is Jawsh, who actively dislikes SMP stans.
  • The Danza: Most characters' names come from the CCs who play them, usually their usernames, but sometimes their first name or a nickname. Notably averted with Schlatt's canonical full name being "Jebediah Schlatt".
  • Deleted Scenes: A lot of content never made it into the final YouTube highlight videos due to how much content was streamed live.
  • Follow-Up Failure: Epic SMP, which features many of the same creators. It failed both times it tried to launch.
  • Friendship on the Set: Many content creators first met on SMPLive and are still good friends to this day.
  • Genre Popularizer: To Minecraft SMPs on web video platforms. While they existed before, they were largely considered a relic of the past by 2019. SMPLive massively revitalized interest in the genre and brought with its end spiritual successors like SMPEarth and the Dream SMP.
  • Line to God: Pretty much every content creator on the SMP had a Twitter account... Which made the whole stan account thing very awkward at best and actively problematic at worst.
  • Official Fan-Submitted Content:
    • The Sun Whale Defense Solutions logo in TekkitLive was designed by a fan.
    • Several of Cooper's alternate outfit skins were submitted by fans.
  • Out of Order: Jschlatt's highlight videos specifically are uploaded in a very scattered order that doesn't reflect when they actually took place.
  • Promoted Fanboy:
    • Yahiamice, though it didn't work out for him very well. He says that he felt the others didn't like him very much due to his enthusiasm, and was later banned for making a trap in the End.
    • Drag0nVR, who was added after making a series of videos daily of him trying to eat a picture of Carson until he was let into the server.

  • Role-Ending Misdemeanor: SMPLive has had a few members that have had allegations made against them, causing other former members and the fanbase to distance themselves. Although, in most cases, these allegations came out long after the end of SMPLive.note
    • Arlus Finch was accused of grooming minors and being manipulative, and went absent from the internet following this.
    • On January 4th of 2021, two former SMPLive members, Hugbox and Traves, went to Keemstar in an interview, telling the world that server creator Carson "CallMeCarson" King had sexted an underage girl in 2019, when he was 19 years old. Carson would then go radio silent for months before later returning, however, nearly all of his former collaborators wanted nothing to do with him, and his viewership was nowhere close to what it once was.
  • Role Reprise: Several creators would return in 2020 to participate in the SMPLive Reunion for charity.
  • Rule 34 – Creator Reactions: From ConnorEatsPants's Twitter: "If you’re gonna write erotic fan fiction about me please write me with a smoking hot babe instead of @jschlatt"
  • Sleeper Hit: When SMPLive started in 2019, Minecraft content on YouTube was largely considered dead, so no one was expecting it to succeed.
  • Star-Making Role: Many of the creators on this server first got a popularity boom here. Notable examples include jschlatt, ConnorEatsPants and Slimecicle.
  • Viral Marketing: SMPLive's success came almost entirely from clips and memes going viral across social media.
  • You Might Remember Me from...: Nicolas Cantu, AKA Junky Janker, voiced Gumball in The Amazing World of Gumball.
