- Box Office Bomb: The film cost $40 million to make and didn't even break the $15 million mark, ending any hope of the intended film franchise.
- Creator Killer: After directing this film, Guy Hamilton (known for directing four James Bond films, including Goldfinger) never directed another internationally released filmnote before his death in 2016.
- Fake Nationality: Jewish American Joel Grey as the Korean-born Master Chiun. The yellowface job on him earned the film an Academy Award nomination for Best Makeup.
- Market-Based Title: Orion Pictures released it in Britain as Remo: Unarmed and Dangerous.
- Stillborn Franchise: This film is the only cinematic outing of the Destroyer novels. In retrospect the film was probably not helped by the subtitle.
- Vindicated by Cable: The film managed to become better-known as a weekend movie on cable and is now seen occasionally at cons.
