- Creator Backlash: Preston Sturges was unhappy with how Mitchell Leisen directed the film, as well as the way he cut the script. It was right after this film that Sturges became a director himself.
- Playing Against Type: More like Writing Against Type; Preston Sturges was usually known for writing comedies. While this has some funny moments, this is mostly a romantic drama. Also, two of Sturges' best-known films (The Miracle of Morgan's Creek and Hail the Conquering Hero) are attacks on small-town hypocrisy, while this film is a celebration of small-town values and life.
- Those Two Actors: This was the first of four films Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck made together.
