Trivia / Phantom Planet (Band)

Go To

  • Breakup Breakout: Jason Schwartzman would later have a far more successful career as an actor after his departure from the band.
  • Channel Hop: Shortly after the release of Phantom Planet Is Missing, Geffen had a major shakeup due to being merged with Interscope and A&M, leading the band to sign with Epic Records for The Guest and their Self-Titled Album. Once their contract with Epic expired, they later signed with Fueled by Ramen for Raise the Dead before going on hiatus right after the album release.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: "You're Not Welcome Here" from the self-titled is unavailable from streaming services, being the only one blanked out when browsing the album.
  • One-Hit Wonder: "California", of course.
  • Real Song Theme Tune: "California" would be used as the theme song for The O.C..
  • Refitted for Sequel: "Do the Panic" was originally composed for The Guest in 2001, with its original version being used in 2001 film Don's Plum and later released in their outtakes compilation Negatives in 2004. The band later re-recorded the song for their fourth album Raise the Dead in 2008, with a few changes that incorporate the garage rock elements they started to add at the time.
  • Schedule Slip: Devastator was originally scheduled for May 8, 2020, before being pushed to June 19. Then it was pushed back one day earlier so it doesn't conflict with Juneteenth, out of respect to the Black Lives Matter movement.
  • Working Title: Phantom Planet Was Here for The Guest. It seems that the band originally wanted their albums to have an Idiosyncratic Episode Naming.
