Trivia / Mortal Kombat: Conquest

Go To

  • Accidental Downer Ending: Shao Kahn wins, killing everyone but Raiden, who is now his prisoner, and displays their personal items as proof they've been slain. A second season was planned in which the Elder Gods would have intervened, revived everyone killed and punished Shao Kahn, but this never happened due to TNT not renewing the series, effectively ending the show on a completely bleak note.
  • Acting for Two: Jeffrey Meek plays both Shao Kahn and Raiden. He does a surprisingly good job differentiating both characters and due to the former's mask, most viewers never realized this.
  • Cast the Expert: Siro and Shang Tsung are played by real life martial artists, Daniel Bernhardt and Bruce Locke respectively.
  • Channel Hop: Went from syndication to TNT.
  • Fake Nationality: The Great Kung Lao, a Chinese character, is played by Paolo Montalban, a Filipino.
  • Role Reprise: Chris Casamassa who played Scorpion in the first MK movie reprises the role in this series.
  • Screwed by the Network: When TNT picked it up, they placed the show immediately following WCW Monday Nitro, which meant it got good ratings. But this also meant higher budget costs, and TNT ended up pulling the plug instead of renewing it.
  • What Could Have Been: A second season, which was Screwed by the Network, that would have connected the show to Mortal Kombat: The Movie. Word of God says that the "Everybody Dies" Ending would have been undone by the Elder Gods, who would have also punished Shao Kahn by forbidding him from taking part of Mortal Kombat for 500 years. However, Shang Tsung would have won back Shao Kahn's favor by enlisting Goro and representing Outworld in the Mortal Kombat tournament in his stead. Meanwhile, Taja and Siro would die of old age and Kung Lao would be killed in Mortal Kombat by Goro after seven days of fighting. Outworld would spend the next 500 years dominating the tournaments while Raiden searched for a new champion who could save Earthrealm.[1]
