Trivia / Lazer Team

Go To

  • Casting Gag: Herman's joke about Adam looking like "the champion of the swim team" is likely a joke about Adam's actor playing Aquaman.
  • Dawson Casting:
    • The official document concerning "six-year-senior" and high school quarterback Zach as seen in the film lists his birth year as 1996. Michael Jones was born in 1987.
    • Likewise, Woody's birth year is seen as 1995. Gavin Free was born in 1988.
  • Descended Creator: Burnie Burns, one of the writers, plays Hagan.
    • Josh Flanagan and Chris Demarais, who worked on some of the original drafts of the script, appear as a crazy alien conspirator and the hated member of a group of soldiers.
  • Dueling Movies: So, the trailer for Lazer Team is released, showing it to be an Affectionate Parody of sci-fi movies and, in general, a throwback to The '80s, featuring a team of four idiots put together by the US government to fight off alien invaders. About two weeks later, the trailer for Pixels is released, showing it to be an Affectionate Parody of sci-fi movies and, in general, a throwback to The '80s, featuring a team of four idiots put together by the US government to fight off alien invaders.
  • Dyeing for Your Art:
    • Gavin Free grew a moustache for his role as Woody.
    • Michael Jones spent a good deal of time before shooting working out to gain the muscles he needed to play Zach.
  • Fake Nationality: The very British Gavin Free is playing an American...who humorously dons a British accent once he gets his piece of the armor in the name of Smart People Speak the Queen's English.
  • Hollywood Old: A minor example. Adam is supposed to be 38 years old, but his actor Alan Ritchson was only 31 during the filming.
  • Production Posse: Notably, three of the four main characters are Rooster Teeth alumni (and the fourth member has since became a frequent collaborator), with several other key Rooster Teeth staff members making appearances throughout the film.
    • Also true of the production team; Matt Hullum, CEO of Rooster Teeth, directs, Burnie Burns, Chris Demarais and Josh Flanagan write.
  • Throw It In!: In the scene where Herman and Woody were around the campfire, Gavin really did fall over backwards over the log, unscripted.
  • What Could Have Been: Early plans were for Woody to have a Gag Penis, revealed by the tight suits (and still noticeable in the group shot). Herman's reactions when near his crotch were a legacy of the abandoned joke. Burnie Burns confirmed on a RT Podcast that the movie was initially supposed to be a rated R film that kept the Gag Penis joke, but was edited down to PG-13 for theatrical release. The original R-rated cut was preserved for Blu-ray.
