- Actor-Inspired Element: At the suggestion of James Stewart, the director changed many shots to make them wider so that "Harvey" would be in the frame.
- Creator Backlash: James Stewart wasn't satisfied with his performance in the 1950 film, believing he didn't emphasize Elwood's alcoholism (due in part to the Hays Code) the way he had tried to do on Broadway. He later played the role again in a 1972 Hallmark Hall of Fame movie and was said to be much more satisfied with his performance.
- Vindicated by Cable: While the film made $2.6 million, a healthy box office figure in The '50s, Universal had paid an unheard-of $1 million for the film rights, so it wasn't all that profitable. As with another James Stewart film, frequent TV airings made it a Cult Classic.
- What Could Have Been:
- Harold Lloyd was willing to appear in a film version of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play, and Preston Sturges expressed interest in purchasing the screen rights.
- Among those considered for Elwood P. Dowd were Jack Benny, James Cagney, Gary Cooper, Bing Crosby and Cary Grant.
- In 2000, the Weinsteins announced a planned remake starring John Travolta.
