Trivia / Escape Plan

  • Cast the Runner-Up: Sylvester Stallone was originally going to play Hobbes, until it was decided that it would make more sense for him to play the lead.
  • Direct-to-DVD: The film did not receive a theatrical release in Australia, instead Australian distributors Hopscotch Films decided to release the film directly to DVD and Blu-Ray.
  • Dueling-Stars Movie: Like The Expendables, the film is a showcase for Arnold and Sly fans to see them come together, see them trade quips about each other and overall kick ass. Too bad they finally did this decades past their prime, and this film proved yet another bomb for both to drive that point home.
  • Mid-Development Genre Shift: The original script was more of a thriller. When Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger came aboard, it became an action film.
  • No Stunt Double: Stallone and Schwarzenegger did as many of their own stunts as possible.
  • Orphaned Reference: Breslin's line "You hit like a vegetarian" was a Call-Back to a Deleted Scene where he finds out that Ray is a vegetarian. It was deemed unnecessary and the line worked without the scene.
  • Playing Against Type: 50 Cent as The Smart Guy.
  • Release Date Change: The film was originally going to be released in April 2013. It was pushed back to September, then October.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Bruce Willis was once attached to star in this film with Antoine Fuqua directing.
    • Miles Chapman's original script had called for the electronic keypad to be on the inside of the solitary cell at the Bendwater prison in Colorado. While storyboarding the film's opening sequence, the filmmakers realized that this was a mistake and the keypad was relocated to the outside of the cell.
    • The doctor was originally Russian. It was decided to skip this, as it changed nothing about his character.
