Trivia / Darksiders II

Go To

  • Creator Killer: Due to poor sales of Darksiders II contributing to the demise of THQ and the failure of Vigil Games to be auctioned off at the auction of THQ's assets, the studio had to be closed. Fortunately most of the team at Vigil Games have new jobs at Crytek, and plans for what THQ wanted from a third game are known. However, it's likely that Crytek will take a new tack in publishing, but not developing later games.
    • Subverted Trope: A third game was later announced five years after the release of II.
  • Follow the Leader: Large chunks of the game's parkour system (jumping into wallruns and wall-climbs, elements on the walls that let you expand your wallruns, all poles being four-sided to restrict the number of directions you can jump, etc.) are ripped wholesale from Prince of Persia (2008).
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: You may wanna hold on to your Wii U digital copies after the end of March 2013...and just in case you thought there was hope, the Wii U eShop itself shut down, ensuring it'll never get relisted.
  • Limited Special Collector's Ultimate Edition: The original version had a Collector's Edition that includes a physical artbook, a digital soundtrack, the Argul's Tomb and Shadow of Death DLCs, and a life-sized replica of Death's mask with a stand.
  • Sequel First: Not necessarily a true example of the trope, but it's worth mentioning that this game appeared on the Wii U before the first game did. There's also a bit of irony there; Darksiders II was one of the earliest games for the Wii U, while Darksiders: Warmastered Edition was released long after Nintendo themselves stopped manufacturing the console.
  • What Could Have Been: PlatinumGames (Yes, THAT Platinum Games) was interested in buying the franchise after the IP was up for auction.
