Trivia / City Hunter: Shinjuku Private Eyes

Go To

  • In Memoriam: Due to the guest appearances of the Kisugi sisters, the movie's end credits feature a dedication in memory of Rui Kisugi's original voice actress, Toshiko Fujita who was unable to reprise her role as she was very ill during the movie's production and died before it was released.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • Due to Toshiko Fujita's poor health, Keiko Toda ended up taking over for Rui Kisugi in addition to reprising her role as Hitomi.
    • In the French dub, Miki and Umibozu were darrin'd the most out of anyone in the old anime and films and this is true again for the dubs of Shinjuku Private Eyes
    • English wise, the dub features a completely new cast compared to ADV's dubs of the previous films. An attempt was made at looking to bring the old cast back but they had all since moved on and were unavailable (such as Kaori's actress, Pamela Ribon, who had since become a screenwriter and co-wrote Moana and Ralph Breaks the Internet). This was also necessary in the case of Umibozu's VA in those dubs, Lou Perryman who was murdered at his home in 2009.
  • Production Posse: Director Kenji Kodama and most of the Japanese voice cast returned from the original anime series and films.
  • Role Reprise:
    • The French dub managed to get Ryo (Vincent Ropion), Kaori, Saeko and the Kisugi sisters French voice actors to reprise their roles. What makes this interesting is, Ai Kisugi's French voice actress, Annabelle Roux, was one of Miki's replacement VA in the 2nd season of City Hunter.
    • The Italian dub once again reunites the original dub voices for Ryo, Kaori, Saeko and Umibozu, but all other returning characters (including Miki and the Kisugi sisters) are voiced by different actors.
    • Ryo's original (and only thus far) Japanese voice actor, Akira Kamiya, returns despite having mostly retired several years prior. He made an exception because of his fondness of the role and because the relative ease of the voice compared to many of his other roles means he could still perform it despite his age, as Ryo does not really have the hot blooded yelling of Kenshiro, or Kamiya's many Super Robot Genre protagonist roles.
  • Sequel Gap: The last major City Hunter animated work in The '90s was the movie City Hunter: Death of the Vicious Criminal Saeba Ryo in 1999. Shinjuku Private Eyes came out twenty years later.
