As this is a fairy-tale setting, there are plenty of nods towards other fairy tales and even pop culture.
- All of the dwarfs are named after characters from fairy tales or lore in general.
- The triplets names Pino, Noki and Kio spell out "Pinocchio".
- Arthur and Merlin are named after the most famous characters from Arthurian Legend.
- Jack could be a nod towards any Jack from any story.
- Hans is a reference to Hansel and Gretel. Or Hans Christian Andersen.
- Amongst the princesses he asked to come over for his birthday party Prince Average lists Ariel, Rapunzel and Princess Leia (now a general) amongst others.
- The film's version of the Evil Queen is named Regina, just like in Once Upon a Time.
- Sam Claflin voices Snow White's love interest, a role he also played (albeit as a very different character) in Snow White & the Huntsman. And just like in that version, the Queen magically disguises herself as him to entice Snow White with the apple, although in this version his real self arrives in time to stop her.
