Emily Is Away has plenty of shout outs, many of which are revealed in the beginning diaglogue of Chapter 1, depending on what icon you chose when logging in.
- Emily shamelessly plugs Actual Sunlight
. The game itself does the same thing. - Selecting the icon for Elegy for a Dead World icon causes you and Emily to have a quick creative writing session.
- The Morrowind icon makes Emily go through the game's opening dialogue on the ship.
- The Freddy icon causes Emily to promote Freddy Fazbear's Pizza restaurant.
- Emily gets excited if you have a Kingdom Hearts icon. Doubles as a Take That! to Valve:emerly35: hey, i love your icon!emerly35: get hyped for the third one!emerly35: at least square enix can count to three :p
- The Richard icon makes Emily question if you'd like to know who you are, since you apparently don't know.
- Having a Nyan Cat icon make you type the lyrics of the song to jog Emily's memory, since she has forgotten how the song goes.
- The Pokeball icon causes Emily to start singing the lyrics for the original anime's theme.
- Emily can mention how she just got back from the robot roller derby disco dodgeball game.
- When presented with three options (you) picked option one.
- Selecting the Flowey icon briefly recreates the first meeting with the flower at the start of the game.
