Tiger & Toni is a German-American series produced by Nickelodeon for its German channel. It was filmed in Los Angeles with a diverse crew from Germany and the USA. Despite being produced in America, it was only aired in Germany and never received an English dub.
The show has a human host, Nina the rock musician, who is friends with two puppets named Tiger and Toni. Tiger is a talking yellow tiger, and his owner is Toni, a young girl. The show takes place in a quaint but kitschy house, and the show's backgrounds and props contain many references to India and jungles, referencing where tigers live in the wild.
This show contains examples of the following tropes:
- All Animals Are Domesticated: Tiger is much tamer than his real-life counterpart.
- Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: Tiger is bright yellow, while real tigers can only be orange and white.
- Artistic License – Animal Care: Tiger lives in a shipping crate and eats human food, neither of which would be appropriate living conditions for a tiger.
- "Do It Yourself" Theme Tune: The Theme Tune is performed by Nina, Tiger, and Toni. It helps that Nina is a musician.
- A Girl and Her X: Along with Nina, the core characters are Toni and her pet, Tiger.
- Long-Runners: The series had 150 segments in total.
- Sapient Pet: Tiger is sometimes smarter than Nina and Toni.
- Token Human: Nina.
- Theme Tune Roll Call: The Theme Tune introduces Tiger and Toni.
- Unusual Pets for Unusual People: Toni is a very adventurous and quirky character, of course she has a pet tiger instead of a cat or a dog.
