Mermaids; beautiful, mysterious, and sometimes possessing strange and awesome powers. So how about we make them the size of a house to boot?!
The Giga Mermaid will completely dwarf any regular-sized character, humans and other mermaids included. Their size could cue them as stronger or having greater authority among their kind, perhaps even being godlike in nature. They could be hostile forces of nature, or perhaps cute Gentle Giants. Other characters will probably be taken off guard and left wide-eyed by their immense size, especially if they're someone with exposure to mermaids in general.
Expect Ms. Fanservice and Statuesque Stunner to be at play as well.

Anime & Manga
- One Piece: Princess Shirahoshi of Fishman Island is a thirty eight foot-tall mermaid. She's big enough to hold the protagnoist, Luffy, in the palm of her hand, and is one of the few merpeople in the series to ever outsize others to that extant (her father, King Neptune, is the only other who's grown past thirty feet). Despite her size and strength, she's very shy, gentle, and quite Prone to Tears.
Mythology
- Classical Mythology: Some depictions of Scylla portray as a woman from the waist up, creating the effect of Unscaled Merfolk. Below the waist though is a series of tentacles and sometimes ravenous canine heads that devour passing sailors.
Video Games
- ''Cuphead: Cala Maria is a massive mermaid, and one of the many bosses Cuphead has to fight to save his soul. She's not only big and tough but also commands dozens of sea creatures to aid her in battle. Then comes the final phase of her fight where she's revealed to also be part gorgon.
- Parodius: Eliza is a mermaid big enough to be wearing a hauled ship atop her head like a crown. She can create large waves by whipping her tail, and is able to damage the player by turning her laugh into physical text characters.
- Shantae: Half-Genie Hero: The Trope Namer, the Giga Mermaid, is the queen of all mermaids in the Shantae universe. Shantae herself is barely a third the height of the Giga Mermaid's head. Shantae encounters the mermaid as the boss of the second world, and frees the latter from being mind-controlled by another villain, earning the queen and her subjects' gratitude.
