Recap / Young Justice S3 E6: Rescue Op

Go To

Takes place on August 5-6.

Brion Markov is determined to rescue his missing sister — even if it means throwing down against the entire League of Shadows.

Written by Joshua Hale Fialkov.

Tropes:

  • Call-Back: Artemis inquires if it's Sportsmaster or Cheshire who took over the League of Shadows since the two did work for Ra's in the first season.
  • Family of Choice: Forager, Brion, and Halo, form a new hive through sharing food.
  • Get Out!: Artemis asks if Cheshire took over the League of Shadows, which is only answered by Ra's with a "Get out." (He had answered her question about if Sportsmaster took over the League of Shadows with a definite no.) Whether or not this means something and/or he just got tired of answering questions is currently unknown.
  • Growing Up Sucks: Played for Laughs. Upon Dick complaining about the kids running off without a plan, Conner reminds him about the Cadmus incident that their team was founded on. Cue Dick groaning that he hates being the grown up.
  • It's Quiet… Too Quiet: After getting all the way to the main courtyard without seeing a single person, Brion realizes their infiltration has gone far too well for an island supposedly full of assassins.
  • Island Base: The League of Shadows are said to be quartered on Infinity Island.
  • Kick the Dog: Sensei dumps Halo's body in the cell with Brion and Forager as a reminder of what their defiance wrought. She heals up not long after.
  • Meaningful Echo: Dick's speech to Halo, Brion, and Forager is almost word for word what Batman told him, Kaldur, and Wally after they broke into Cadmus seven years before.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Halo's real name is Gabrielle Daou, but she adopts the name "Violet". In the comics, it's reversed — she was originally Violet Harper, but adopted the name "Gabrielle Doe" (as in "Jane Doe") after getting powers and losing her memory.
    • The mysterious ninja that started to remember Dick Grayson is credited as "Red Hooded Ninja".
  • Neck Snap: Sensei snaps Halo's neck when Brion won't stand down.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Brion knocks out Miss Martian during the battle on Infinity Island by powering up near her, accidentally triggering her weakness to heat, allowing the ninjas to get the better of the group in the confusion.
  • Not Me This Time: Ra's denies any responsibility for Tara's potential participation in the League of Shadows because he's no longer in charge of them, or part of the Light for that matter.
  • Relationship Upgrade: After getting a little bit of Ship Tease throughout the first two seasons, Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon are revealed to have gotten together during the two-year timeskip and are now an Official Couple.
  • Seen It All: Ra's is only mildly surprised by Halo's revival, having come back from the dead quite a few times himself, just noting that such resurrections usually involve a Lazarus Pit.
  • Take That!: Black Spider asks, "Do I need better quips?"
  • That Man Is Dead: When Halo is told her real name and flashes back to her treatment as an immigrant, she rejects her former identity and chooses to be "Violet".
  • Villains Never Lie: Or at least, this particular villain doesn't. When Ra's claims that he's no longer part of the Light or head of the Shadows, Dick takes him at his word. "Ra's Al Ghul is many things, but a liar isn't one of them."
    • Sensei implying that Brion's sister chooses not to be rescued by him.
  • Wham Line: Ra's says he is no longer head of the Shadows, nor is he part of The Light anymore.
  • Wham Shot: Two of them. First, after the team leaves, we see Talia stepping out of the shadows with a baby that's been confirmed to be Damian. Then the camera pans over to the man standing next to Ra's, who lowers his hood and slurs out the name "Grayson" — we've finally met the second Robin.
