"Dr. Two Brains, Mr. Cheese" contains the following tropes:

  • Added Alliterative Appeal: Dr. Two-Brains refers to his blueprints as his "diabolical diagrams".
  • And Here He Comes Now: At the start of the episode, Dr. Two-Brains tells his henchmen to hurry up, since they need to steal the building they turned into cheese before "you-know-who" shows up. As he's saying this, WordGirl and Captain HuggyFace show up in the background behind him.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Dr. Two-Brains reacts this way when he finds out his henchmen left the directions to their next crime on the street for WordGirl to find.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: As Dr. Two-Brains starts to explain his plan to break into the cheeseum, WordGirl interrupts him to inform the viewer that the cheeseum is a museum for rare and expensive cheeses.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Lampshaded. WordGirl points out that Dr. Two-Brains' plan to turn the roof of the cheeseum into goop before stealing the cheese inside would lead to the goop getting all over the cheese, and that he didn't quite think the plan through.
  • Sadistic Choice: In order to get away from WordGirl, Dr. Two-Brains pushes his goop ray off the edge of the building they're on over the oldest tree in the city, forcing her to choose between catching him and saving the tree. She solves the issue by attaching a tracking device to him.
  • Smoking Barrel Blowout: Mr. Cheese does this with the ray gun he used to turn a piece of cheese into goop to show Dr. Two-Brains that he's serious about his threats.
  • Tempting Fate: When Dr. Two-Brains goes to jail at the end of the episode, he tells his henchmen how happy he is that he won't have to deal with Mr. Cheese anymore. Then the Warden opens the door and reveals that Mr. Cheese is Two-Brains' and the Henchmen's new cellmate.
  • Terrible Interviewees Montage: Downplayed. A variety of animals come to audition for the role of Dr. Two-Brains' new sidekick, and while they're not blatantly terrible, he still finds that none of them click with or impress him... until he meets the mouse Mr. Cheese.
  • Tracking Device: WordGirl throws one at Dr. Two-Brains so she can catch him later after he forces her into a Sadistic Choice between catching him and saving the oldest tree in the city from being crushed. Things are complicated afterwards when her father gets his hands on the tracker and refuses to give it to her until he learns what it is.
  • Translator Buddy: Dr. Two-Brains acts like this to Mr. Cheese, translating his mouse squeaking to English.
  • Troubled Fetal Position: Played for laughs. Dr. Two-Brains goes into this position when he finds out that Mr. Cheese is going to be his cellmate in jail.

"Kitty Cat Criminals" contains the following tropes:

  • Added Alliterative Appeal: From the ending narration:
Narrator: And so, the feline and/or food-based foes are no match for the force of WordGirl and Captain HuggyFace.
  • An Aesop: As WordGirl puts it:
WordGirl: Sometimes when you've got something good that works, you don't have to change it.
  • Batman Gambit: In order to catch Chuck and the Butcher, WordGirl casually mentions that a meatball sandwich made out of jewels is going to be on display at the city museum, knowing that neither of the villains would be able to resist their true idiosyncrazies and keep up their cat-themed persona.
  • Bland-Name Product: Rather than a Bedazzler, Becky has a Bejewelerizer.
  • Call-Back: Chuck once again takes up his Handsome Panther persona from the episode of the same name. Meanwhile, the Butcher bases his cat outfit on Lil' Mittens, the cat he briefly adopted in "Meat with a Side of Cute".
  • Blatant Lies: When the Butcher confronts Chuck about why he was on the museum roof with a grappling hook when they agreed not to try to steal the jewelled meatball sandwich, Chuck claims that he was taking a rooftop stroll.
  • Continuity Cavalcade: The Butcher's chart of people he's previously themed up with consists of Dr. Two-Brains, Kid Potato, Lil' Mittens, Reginald, the Baker and the Candlestick Maker, and Dupey.
  • Improbable Weapon User: In his Lil' Mittens persona, the Butcher throws balls of yarn at people as an attack.
  • Twinkle Smile: Captain HuggyFace gets one when showing off his newly bejewelerized costume at the end of the episode.
  • Villain Team-Up: The Butcher decides to team up with Chuck the Evil Sandwich-Making Guy after making a chart of his previous team-ups and realising that he hasn't had one with Chuck yet. After failing to come up with a crime that has to do with both meat and sandwiches, they realise that they've both committed crimes involving cats in the past and decide to use that as a basis instead.
