Recap / The Wonderful World Of Mickey Mouse S 1 E 5 Keep On Rollin

Go To

"Keep on Rollin'" is the 5th episode of The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse.

Mickey and his friends' disco night at the roller rink is placed in peril when their fun is crashed by Peg-Leg Pete and his gang.

Tropes:

  • Ass Kicks You: Being an episode based around disco, Mickey and Minnie do the Bump at one point.
  • Call-Back: The California boardwalk from "No Service" returns when the gang tries it as a replacement rink. Similar music from the episode is heard when the gang are chased away.
  • The Cameo:
    • The Beast from Beauty and the Beast makes a cameo, and the gang considers using his ballroom for their roller rink.
    • Members of Pete's gang are two of the Beagle Boys and Vanessa, who transforms into Ursula from The Little Mermaid. Pat Carroll also reprises her role as Ursula.
  • Cool Old Guy: Yen Sid, of all people, owns the roller rink that Mickey and his friends visit to have their disco night.
  • Crossover Ship: In-universe, Pete refers to Ursula as his date, though it’s hard to tell if he means that seriously or not. If so, it doubles as Unholy Matrimony.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Pete's gang completely thrashes Mickey and co at the start. Then, the latter returns the favor, figuratively and literally running circles around them.
  • Disco Sucks: Pete and his gang's attitude, since they would rather use the rink for roller derby.
  • Mythology Gag: The name of the rink is Yen Sid's. This is not only "Disney" spelled backwards, it was also the name of the sorcerer from "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" segment of Fantasia. Yen Sid himself also serves as the DJ.
  • Stock Sound Effect: The famous scream first heard in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, also well known for being Dragon Maleficent’s death cry in Sleeping Beauty, is used when Ursula begins ripping into the fleeing skaters.
  • Too Dumb to Live: How did Mickey and co not know that the building they're using is up for demolition is anyone's guess.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: This episode pays tribute to the Mickey Mouse Disco album from the 1970s.
