Season 10, Episode 10

As Gamma is interrogated by Alexandria, Daryl and Alpha face off in the woods.

  • Asshole Victim: Alfred, one of the Highwaymen who irrationally blamed and beat up Lydia, is killed by Beta as he brags about the attack on her. Nobody is gonna miss that douchebag.
  • Call-Back:
    • Gamma killed her sister Frances back in “We Are the End of the World”.
    • Dante’s murder of Siddiq took place in “Open Your Eyes”, and Gabriel murdered Dante for it in “The World Before”.
  • Character Death: Laura is brutally murdered by Beta.
  • Defiant to the End: Laura holds out as long as she can against Beta.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Laura holds off Beta while ordering Gamma to get help, knowing full well she likely won’t stand a chance against such an imposing foe, and is quickly overpowered and killed by him.
    • Gamma gives herself up to Beta to save Rosita's life, despite knowing full well that Beta is lying through his teeth about Alpha giving her a "painless" death. Fortunately, Gabriel and his unit are able to catch up with them and save her.
  • It Has Only Just Begun: At the end of the episode, Alpha declares war on the communities.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Gabriel has become extremely vengeful against the Whisperers, but can you really blame him after all the damage Dante (who he personally vetted into the community) caused?
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Beta wisely decides to make a break for it when confronted with Gabriel’s well-armed unit.
  • Made of Iron: Beta survives a gunshot from Judith (admittedly with help from armor stolen from one of his victims) and is back up and running soon enough.
  • Morton's Fork: Daryl has to choose between trying to struggle as weak as he is with the last walker, or remove the knife embedded in his thigh to kill it. He picks the latter, and it causes him to start bleeding out faster.
  • Mythology Gag: In an example that may or may not be Foreshadowing, Gabriel mentions the walker herd is on its way to a watch tower. His comic counterpart was killed by Beta at such a watch tower at the onset of the Whisperer War.
  • One-Man Army: Beta has practically no trouble tearing his way through Alexandria. It takes a gunshot from Judith to finally slow him down some.
  • Stop, or I Shoot Myself!: This is how Gamma is able to save Rosita’s life when Beta is about to kill the latter. Gamma holds one of Beta's knives to her throat and threatens to kill herself, thereby denying Beta the ability to take her back to Alpha alive as per his orders. It’s enough to get Beta to back down.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Gabriel has become far more vengeful and angry in taking on his enemies.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: The other Alexandrian leaders are taken aback when Gabriel rants that fear and pain will break the Whisperers. Rosita, his girlfriend, in particular appears disgusted.
