Go To

Original air date: 7/19/2002 (produced in 2001)

Production code: PPG-402

After Buttercup destroys her chalk, Bubbles is offered a new set by a group of forest critters (who are part of an evil plan by HIM). When her drawings come to life and attack Pokey Oaks, Bubbles must stop these creatures, using chalk and duster as weapons.

All Chalked Up provides examples of:

  • Art Initiates Life: The magic chalk Bubbles received from HIM brings all her drawings to life.
  • Big "SHUT UP!": Blossom bellows one of these when her sisters start arguing after she asks what's going on.
  • Break the Cutie: Bubbles after Buttercup crushes her chalk.
  • Call-Back: Buttercup has a hard time apologizing, just like in "Paste Makes Waste".
  • Dodgeball Is Hell: Downplayed, but the game is still pretty rough if Buttercup is attending.
  • Eye Beams: The dinosaur-like monster drawn by Bubbles can use these.
  • Heroic BSoD: Bubbles suffers one after seeing the chaos caused by the monsters she created.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Mitch gets hit by his own dodgeball when it misses Buttercup and ricochets back at him.
  • Humiliation Conga: When Bubbles realizes she has been tricked by HIM, she first uses the magic chalk to turn the monsters from evil to good, and then humiliates HIM even further by drawing butterfly wings onto him.
  • Inelegant Blubbering: Hooooo boy, does Bubbles do this after Buttercup breaks the chalk.
  • Kaiju: Bubbles draws four of these.
  • Kick the Dog: Buttercup destroying Bubbles' chalk, sending her in tears.
  • Kill It with Ice: Blossom tries this, to no avail.
  • Kindness Ball: Mitch, for once. After Buttercup knocks him into the ground, causing him to erase Bubbles' chalk drawings, he apologizes for it (albeit sheepishly) when he could have easily blamed Buttercup.
  • Kryptonite Factor: Erasers are these to the chalk monsters since they are, well, made of chalk.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After refusing to share the playground with Bubbles, destroying her chalk and watching her burst into tears with a smirk on her face, Buttercup being beaten by the chalk monsters actually seems well-deserved for once.
  • No-Sell: The chalk monsters are immune to any of the girls’ attacks. Only their sonic screams briefly stun them.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: For some reason, Bubbles doesn’t recognize HIM in his butterfly form even though his face is blatantly recognizable.
  • Pulling Themselves Together: The chalk monsters can use the magic chalk to repair any damage the girls do to them.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: HIM uses these to give Bubbles the magic chalk, so she won’t expect anything evil is behind it.
  • Shrinking Violet: Blossom is this when hiding behind a hiding Buttercup when they both face an angry Bubbles.
  • Showdown at High Noon: Parodied with a game of dodgeball between Mitch and Buttercup, during noon recess. Mitch has the ball, and Buttercup threatens that if he misses, he has to play with Bubbles and her chalk.
  • Smug Super: Buttercup destroys Bubbles’ chalk just to make her cry.
  • Trying Not to Cry: Bubbles after her chalk is destroyed. She fails... tremendously, to say the least.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Bubbles to HIM, who uses his disguise as a butterfly and the cute critters he summoned to trick Bubbles into thinking she is making the forest even more beautiful with her drawings, and then, when she’s convinced of his good intentions, tricks her into creating monsters to attack her sisters.
  • The Unapologetic: Downplayed. At the end of the episode, Buttercup reluctantly tries to apologize, even struggling to get it out. Bubbles, immediately understanding her sentiments, hugs her in forgiveness, and accepts her apology before she can give it.
