Go To

Stair Wars

Original air date: 7/23/2021

Patrick needs to go upstairs to get a golf club, and GrandPat has to use the downstairs bathroom. They run into each other on the stairs and refuse to move, getting the whole family and neighborhood involved.

Stair Wars contains examples of:

  • Appeal to Familial Wisdom: When Patrick and GrandPat are arguing over who gets to go up the stairs first.
Patrick: I'm sorry, GrandPat, but Dad always told me...
[Patrick imagines Cecil in a thought bubble]
Cecil: Son, the best advice I could ever give you is: never back down from a stair-off.
GrandPat: I told you that! That's my advice!
  • Camera Abuse: At the end of the episode, Patrick knocks a golf ball into the screen and makes it shatter.
  • Characterization Marches On: This is the only episode of the series where Squidina actually has stage fright.
  • Continuity Nod: Like in "Late for Breakfast", Patrick briefly forgets who GrandPat is.
  • Edible Bludgeon: Everyone fighting in the Stair Wars uses bread and butter as swords.
  • Eye Scream: Dr. Plankenstein gets a piece of popcorn lodged in his eye.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: The title is a reference to Star Wars.
  • Suddenly Shouting: Squidina standing up against GrandPat.
Squidina: GrandPat, Patrick needs that club, which means the show needs that club, which means we're getting that club!
  • Voodoo Shark: Played for Laughs. Patrick finds his golf club because it was stuck between his teeth, but exactly how and why that could happen is never explained.

Enemies à la Mode

Original air date: 7/23/2021

Patrick won't put on the show because he's too busy chasing the local ice cream guy. Squidina is left to do the show herself, interviewing her family about their enemies.

Enemies à la Mode contains examples of:

  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: GrandPat's story about ice cream prohibition is a clear allegory of alcohol prohibition.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Throughout the episode, Squidina acts a lot more sarcastic and annoyed by her family's quirks than she would be later.
  • Gave Up Too Soon: Patrick wants ice cream, so GrandPat tells him a story about the days of ice cream prohibition and how he got them in secret from other people. This gives Patrick another idea to get ice cream, by having Squidina order it for him, but right after he leaves, GrandPat reveals he did have ice cream he was willing to give to Patrick.
  • Lost Aesop: Squidina tries to conclude the episode, but can't really describe what the viewer should take away from it.
Squidina: Oh! Uh... that's our show! I hope you learned a lot about enemies. Or ice cream. Or toaster repair? See you next time!
  • Noodle Incident: According to the pre-recorded segment, Patrick once got his tongue stuck in a mousetrap.
