Recap / The Interns S 3 E 2

Go To

Lobanov's mistreat of Levin goes too far after yet another "deer" joke, and now Levin wants to finally strike back. Unfortunately, every single attempt completely fails. But the opportunity arises when one woman tries to ask Lobanov for help: her son needs a clown, and it's too late to refuse. Levin uses this chance to take his vengeance, and what was supposed to be a private show, becomes a public humiliation. However, when he sees that Semyon's poor performance is about to ruin poor kid's birthday, he cooperates with him to salvage the situation.

Kisegach worries about Gleb, as she can't contact him since the previous night. Meanwhile, Gleb arrives to the hospital, uncertain how he's gonna live knowing that his mother is now with Bykov. After discussing it with Lobanov, he decides to strike back them both. Now, Kisegach has one hour to break up with Bykov and fire him, or Gleb would tell everyone, quit internship and move to his father. Bykov decides to do as he asks, instead of ruining Gleb's relationship with his mother.

Varya's patient is trying to flirt with her. And Lobanov... but then turns out that it's just a nervous tic. After she wastes a whole day without achieving anything, Bykov finally tells her where she made a mistake, and forces her to go and apologise before the patient.

At the end of the day, Bykov tells his interns that he would leave the hospital, and they would receive a replacement mentor. But no-one, except for Romanenko, is happy with this. Lobanov instantly guesses whose fault it is, and confronts Gleb about this. After this, Gleb goes to Kisegach and takes back his threats and demands... but he still insist that Kisegach must break with Bykov. Kisegach complies.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Blackmail: If Kisegach would not break up with Bykov and fire him, Romanenko would quit internship and would move to his father. He gives her one hour to think this over.
  • Cigarette of Anxiety: Kisegach is so worried about Gleb, she starts smoking in attempt to calm down. Bykov (unsuccessfully) tries to make her stop.
  • Dude, Not Funny!:
    • Lobanov's joke after which Levin finally snaps is a picture of deer, with Levin's photo attached in place of its head.
    • When Kisegach worries about her son, and wether he did something to harm himself, Bykov makes a tasteless "joke" about him "also" counting on it. Kisegach is not amused, but too worried to press it further.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Levin decides that his vengeance on Lobanov doesn't worth ruining poor kid's birthday, and joins in to help Lobanov to salvage the situation.
  • Mistaken for Gay: Just like Varya before him, Semyon mistakes the patient's nervous tic (he's constantly blinking) for his flirting attempt, and reacts highly negatively.
  • Non-Verbal Miscommunication: Varya's patient does not flirt with her (nor with Lobanov), he is constantly blinking because of his nervous tic. Unfortunately, Varya is not aware of this, and instead of treating him, shouts on him and leaves. Bykov later explains to Varya where she failed, and forces to go and apologise.
  • Not What It Looks Like: Varya's patient suffers from nervous tic, forcing him to constantly blinking. This makes him look like he is flirting with everybody. Including Lobanov.
  • Parental Marriage Veto: Gleb tries to make everything in his powers to force Kisegach and Bykov to break up. In the end, he gets called out on this by Lobanov, who actually sides with them rather than Gleb, but still presses the issue until Kisegach agrees to stop dating Bykov.
  • Parental Sexuality Squick: Gleb is extremely squicked by his mother's relationship with Bykov, and is uncertain how to live further with this. Unfortunately, he decides to deal with the situating by blackmailing them.
  • Pet the Dog: While Levin initially only cared about taking vengeance on Lobanov, and him playing a clown was great opportunity, he actually helps him in the end of the episode, as it becomes clear that otherwise the poor kid's birthday would be ruined.
  • So Unfunny, It's Funny: Lobanov's attempt to play a clown for sick kid completely fails: he's somehow even more pathetic in this role than he is in a role of a doctor. Levin actually uses this to take revenge on Lobanov, by inviting the other people to see this and laugh on Lobanov's humiliation. Since this is supposed to be the actual birthday present, Levin then goes inside and helps Lobanov to salvage seemingly hopeless situation and cheer up the poor kid.
  • Troll:
    • Lobanov and Levin's plot starts after Semyon plays particularly nasty "deer" joke on Levin (a picture of deer with Levin's head attached), which finally leads to Levin snapping.
    • Gleb's "revenge" on Bykov and Kisegach involves over-joyful behaviour (to the point of looking maniacal) while near them, including calling Bykov "papa" and constantly bothering them about the wedding. He also threatens to tell everyone in the hospital about their affair, even if they are not ready yet. After Kisegach angrily tells him to stop this, he proceeds to outright blackmail them.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: When Bykov announces that he would quit, and interns would receive a replacement mentor, no one reacts positively... except for Gleb, who was the one who caused it in the first place. Semyon realises that it's not a coincidence, and confronts him to remind him how much they owe to Bykov. He also tells Gleb that Kisegach and Bykov can deal with their life whatever they want, and Gleb has no right to ruin everything just because he doesn't like Bykov. After this, Gleb goes to Kisegach and takes back his threats and demands... but he still insist that Kisegach must break with Bykov, to which she complies.
