Recap / The Ghost And Molly Mc Gee S 2 E 3 Double Double Darryl And Trouble

Go To

Darryl tries to get out of cleaning up a mess he made by becoming a ghost for a day and leaving his body to do all the work. But when he starts to think everyone prefers his docile, soulless self, Darryl is tempted to stay a ghost forever.

Tropes:

  • Actually Pretty Funny: While Pete and Sharon scold Darryl for drawing an unflattering mural of Principal O'Connor, once they're back in the car they share a laugh about it. They later confess to finding all of his murals hilarious, including one of Molly.
  • Breather Episode: After dealing with The Ghost Council and attempting to keep the Chens from finding Scratch, this episode focuses more on Scratch and the family's antics.
  • Brutal Honesty: While Scratch admits that his family won’t chose Darryl’s more well-behaved but dull-as-dishwater soulless body over his true troublemaking personality, he singles out Principal O’Connor as the exception, but asks Darryl if he can really be upset of O’Connor for that. Darryl concedes his point.
  • Call-Back: Darryl recalls how Molly became a wraith in the season 1 finale "Molly vs. the Ghost World", and wants to try it for himself.
  • Everybody Has Standards: While Scratch thinks Darryl spending the day as a ghost is a lot of fun, alarm bells go off for him when Darryl decides to run away from home as a ghost permanently.
  • Exact Words: Darryl abuses this trope, becoming a ghost because Molly told him to try doing what she does, then telling his body to leave and calling it a piece of garbage leads to the body throwing itself away due to being Literal-Minded.
  • Forgot About His Powers: Inverted; Darryl forgets he doesn't have ghostly powers anymore when he tries to walk through a dresser and just hits his head.
  • Free the Frogs: One of the pranks Darryl plays as a ghost is to free all the frogs in the science lab.
  • Hold Up Your Score: After Scratch demonstrates the power of intangibility by doing a masterful dive into the ground, Molly holds up a notebook with the number "10" written across a two-page spread.
  • Literal-Minded: Darryl's soulless body does whatever he's told. So when Darryl angrily tells him "Get out of here, you piece of garbage!", his body dutifully throws himself out with the trash, forcing Darryl to rescue it from the junkyard.
  • Loophole Abuse: Darryl argues that turning into a ghost falls under "What Would Molly Do?", since she turned into one to save Scratch back in "Molly vs. the Ghost World".
  • Pants-Pulling Prank: Darryl and Scratch does this to Mr. O'Connor, then Darryl's soulless body pulls it back up.
  • We Want Our Jerk Back!: Darryl is frustrated to discover his family apparently likes his new, better-behaved body, but later discovers his parents are worried they broke their son's spirit. At the end of the episode, Molly admits she also misses her brother's mischievous antics.
  • What Would X Do?: Molly tries to get Darryl to behave himself with the mantra "WWMD", or "What Would Molly Do?" Later when Darryl goes back to being his trouble-making, free-spirited self, she suggest the mantra "WWDDTWGHIT", or "What Would Darryl Do That Won't Get Him In Trouble", which she's forced to admit is a bit of a mouthful.
