Recap / The Casagrandes S 1 E 5 Arrr In The Family Finders Weepers

Go To

Arrr in the Family: Ronnie Anne is determined to help CJ get on stage at a pirate dinner show.

Finders Weepers: Ronnie Anne and Sid have to decide whether they should borrow money from a lost coin purse they found in the mercado.

"Arrr in the Family" provides examples of:

  • Big Brother Instinct: Even though they're cousins and not siblings, CJ immediately rushes on stage to save Ronnie Anne after noticing that she's in danger of walking the plank.
  • Cheaters Never Prosper: Ralphie stole a girl's birthday hat to cheat his way into being picked again. He ended up losing a mock swordfight with CJ, the very kid he was trying to prevent from getting picked! Then, even after he apologizes to CJ, the birthday girl kicks Ralphie in the shin and takes back her hat.
  • Goofy Print Underwear: Carl's "choo-choo chonies."
  • Jerkass: Among the attendees of the pirate show is a kid named Ralphie, whose gloating about being the one picked to raise the pirate flag stirs Ronnie Anne into helping CJ get picked—he also cheats to get picked again by stealing a girl's birthday hat (which easily fools Captain Dave).
  • Mama Bear / Papa Wolf: After CJ rushes on stage to save Ronnie Anne, the rest of the family rushes in to save the two of them.
  • The Stool Pigeon: Ronnie Anne and CJ's attempt to sit closer to the stage backfires via this trope; Ralphie tells the waiter that they aren't sitting in their proper seats.

"Finders Weepers" provides examples of:

  • Comedic Underwear Exposure: After pricing the merchandise in the mercado, Bobby accidentally rips his pants with his sticker gun, exposing his Goofy Print Underwear.
  • Cosmetic Horror: Gender-flipped example; Ronnie Anne and Sid cover their faces upon see Mr. Nakamura and his dog, Nelson, getting Cucumber Facials.
  • Easy Come, Easy Go: The $100 in the coin purse is quickly spent when Ronnie Anne and Sid get distracted by pizza, arcade games, movies, etc.
  • Face Palm: Carl does this when Bobby can't figure out that the green sweater from the lost-and-found box is his own.
  • False Teeth Tomfoolery: One of the chores Maybelle has Ronnie Anne and Sid do is cleaning her dentures.
  • Rummage Sale Reject: One scene has Bobby wearing a brown cowboy hat, sunglasses, a gold earring, a green sweater, a CD player with headphones, and a pink cowboy boot. Carl lampshades this trope by saying, "That's not a good look for you."
  • Tomato in the Mirror: Played for Laughs; Bobby has made a bet with Carl that all of the items in the lost-and-found box will be claimed by the end of the day. In the end, only the sweatshirt hasn't been claimed by anyone. Bobby loses the bet because he somehow can't figure out that the sweatshirt is his even after finding out that it reads "Bobby" on the back.
  • Vomit Discretion Shot: Carl is playing water-balloon tag with CJ and suspends himself to the ceiling with a rope. As he tries to grab the coin purse from Ronnie Anne, Carl swings around, suffers motion sickness, and throws up.
  • Working Off the Debt: After Ronnie Anne and Sid come clean about spending all the money in her coin purse (which amounted to $100), Maybelle has them do chores for her to make up for all the money they spent.
