You'd have to be on drugs not to love The Superjail Monthly Movie Matinee. Or at least that's what The Warden thinks, when the inmates don't love his Monthly Movie Matinee. Meanwhile, Alice is the only one who can help the Twins with a "feminine problem."

"The Budding of the Warbuxx" contains examples of:

  • A Day in the Limelight: It's officially the second "Twins" spotlight episode of season 2, although they share their plot with Alice and it runs alongside a B-plot of Jean and Paul trying to help Ash overcome his fear, as well as the plot with the Warden, Jared, and the Doctor getting high.
  • Bizarre Alien Biology: If you thought the Twins' bodies (or the guys themselves) were strange before, this episode basically seals it. A spontaneous pregnancy, cravings for poisonous chemicals, sharp crystals (that can be used as drugs) budding from a belly, and so on.
  • Bloodless Carnage: The Warbuxx bud seems to not bleed at all when the Twins devour and mutilate him, with only flesh (or flesh-tone blood) being depicted as flung about. However, it's subverted in a few frames at the end, when the Warbuxx's decapitated head does bleed note  after the starving child takes a bite.
  • Comically Missing the Point: What starts off the plot. The Warden figures that the inmates must be busy being high on drugs if they don't like his movie, not that they're simply bored. Then he figures that Alice mustn't be using the bathroom to relieve herself (due to her not wanting to admit to such), but that her excuse of "powdering her nose" means that she's doing cocaine.
  • Continuity Nod: Alice still has Sweet Cheeks as her favorite lover, as we see a photo of his tormented face in her bedroom.
    • One of the inmates that plan to bully Ash is the red-haired "Insane Clown Posse"-inspired inmate from "Cold-Blooded".
  • Creator Cameo: The greaser Jimmy in the '50s PSA film is modeled after Richard Mather, the voice actor of the Twins. The nerdy Timmy is modeled after Matt Peters, one of the animators (and who also storyboarded some of the episode). One of the inmates watching the film was also modeled after Peters' appearance.
  • Fish Eyes: The budding Twin is given these in quite a few scenes (most notably him trying to eat Janice, and the labor sequence) to add to the creepy effect. His brother also gets a very wall-eyed expression when the Warden is shown spying on the two and Alice leaving the bathroom.
  • Formula-Breaking Episode: With little to no violence, save for some inmates burning and what the Twins do to the Warbuxx, this episode is probably one of the least goriest of the run (though still considered disturbing in its implications). The jarring lack of the opening sequence also sets it apart from the rest of season 2. Then there's the matter of the Twins being depicted as less humanoid and more reptilian/bug-like as aliens, and the character animation for them being very stretchy and exaggerated. And most unusually (owing to there being less gore), Fatty doesn't die or get mutilated in any way.
  • Four-Fingered Hands: Seen not only on Jared as usual, but also on the Warbuxx.
  • Mister Seahorse: The budding Twin is not only pregnant, but soon takes on the mood swings and irrationality to go with it.
  • Multipurpose Tongue: The Twins' tongues can apparently stretch and grab objects, as well as split off into pairs of pincers.
  • Mushroom Samba: The Warden, the Doctor, and Jared all experience a drug-trip from the crystals, picturing themselves in outer space. The only thing is, the side-effects of the drugs seem to actually become real on them for a while.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Is it the Wurbuxx or the Warbuxx? Adult Swim's site uses the latter, but the DVD seems to switch between both (although it seems "Warbuxx" is the most official).
  • They Killed Kenny Again: The budding Twin attempts to swallow Janice whole. When Alice manages to wrest control of him and Janice gets released, she cracks her head on the floor and bleeds to death.
  • Troubled Backstory Flashback: With Ash. But rather than being traumatized at being burned and disfigured, it's the fact that his father abandoned him at the movies that continues to mentally scar him.
