Provides examples of:

  • Boomerang Bigot: Bernarnd Manning complains that he's run out of minorities to hate, including his own Jewish mother. Although Website/Wikipedia reports in Real Life it was his father, not his mother, who had Jewish ancestry.
  • The Bore: Frank Bruno and Henry Cooper face off to see who's the most boring chat-show guest.
  • Call-Back: President Marcos is still in Thatcher's cabinet following his first appearance in the previous episode.
  • Drink-Based Characterization: While David Owen drinks a pint of Hofmeister, David Steel drinks a glass of milk with a straw.
  • Fun with Homophones: Thatcher mishears Douglas Hurd when he tells her that rapes are up. She's only horrified because he had said that rates were up.
  • Funny Background Event: While David Owen and David Steel are in the pub, in the background you can see Kenneth Newman seemingly having a pleasant conversation with Floella Benjamin, one of the show's few Black puppets. Presumably this would have been regarded as incongruous given the Met's reputation for institutional racism.
  • Pædo Hunt: A couple of Sun journalists, played by vultures, complain that they're sick of writing stories about rape and child molestation.
  • Parody Commercial: The Right Honourable Brontosaurus running down a corridor is a reference to an advert in BT's "For All Things Great and Small, Make That Call". This Tagline itself was a reference to the Anglican hymn, "All Things Bright and Beautiful".
  • Smooth-Talking Talent Agent: Denis Healey goes to see his agent who tells him about an offer from the Mr New Universe organisation.
  • Textual Celebrity Resemblance: Phil Collins complains in his song that he looks like Mel Smith, Bob Hoskins and Eddie Shah.
  • Ye Goode Olde Days: The Right Honourable Brontosaurus waxes lyrical about the days when there were no muggings and he was free to eat Black people.
  • Youthful Freckles: When she does her makeup, Fergie sprays on her freckles with a colander.
