Tropes

  • Body-Count Competition: The Roses try to outdo each other in shooting down Eggforcers. It ends with them shooting an Eggforcer at the same time and tying on 60.
  • Cliffhanger: The episode ends with Dread, having convinced his crew that Sonic betrayed them, holding the hedgehog at swordpoint and demanding the Shard.
Dread: Last chance, blue. The Shard, or your life!
  • *Crack!* "Oh, My Back!": Dr. Done-It hurts his back after the cannon he operates gets shot by Rusty Rose.
  • Deadly Dodging: Sonic dodges a laser bolt from Dr. Done-It's cane which hits Dr. Deep, who was behind him.
  • Defiant Captive: Tied to the Kraken's mast, Rusty Rose repeatedly lectures the pirates until her abandonment and Heel–Face Turn. Black Rose tells her to shut up, to which the cyborg angrily refuses.
  • Eye Colour Change: Rusty Rose’s cybernetic eye turns from red to pink when she chooses to join Dread’s crew, symbolising the fact that she has made a Heel–Face Turn by herself.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Knuckles the Dread turns his crew against Sonic out of fear that the hedgehog might take the Shard from him. Though considering that Sonic wants all of the Shards to save his friends, Knuckles the Dread was technically right.
  • Going Down with the Ship: Discussed, as well as spoofed. When the Angel's Voyage crew hijack Rusty Rose's submarine, the Kraken, Dread reasons "a good captain goes down with his ship, but a great captain steals someone else's".
  • Have You Tried Rebooting?: While trying to fix his craft's communications after Nine disables them, Dr. Deep consults the manual, which advises trying this. This causes him to get in Dr. Done-It's way yet again, as he's trying to surface the craft at that moment and is left very confused as to why the power's suddenly cut out.
Dr. Deep: "When it doubt, try turning it off, then turning it back on again." How profound. [does exactly that]
  • Heel–Face Turn: The Chaos Council abandon Rusty Rose, who'd been captured by the pirates, due to perceiving her as having failed too many times. As a result, she defects, joining the pirate crew. She spends the rest of the episode competing with her counterpart Black Rose to see who can destroy the most enemy robots.
  • I Am Not Weasel: Subverted. Right at the end of the episode, Dr. Done-It correctly calls Sonic a hedgehog, which the latter lampshades.
  • I Resemble That Remark!: After Sonic quips that Rusty Rose and Black Rose are more alike than they think, the pair of them retort "We are nothing alike!" in perfect unison, complete with matching arm movements. Batten lampshades it.
  • Never My Fault: When Dr. Deep sees Rusty Rose manning the Kraken's cannons having undergone a Heel–Face Turn, he angrily tells Dr. Done-It, "I told you we should have taken her with us!" Abandoning Rusty Rose had actually been Dr. Deep's own idea in the first place.
Dr. Done-It: You said no such thing!
Dr. Deep: Well, I thought it!
  • Sword Beam: Dread finds that with the shard, he can shoot lightning through his cutlass.
  • You Have Failed Me: Dr. Done-It and Dr. Deep don't even give Rusty Rose the courtesy of saying it to her face.
Dr. Done-It: What about Rusty Rose?
Dr. Deep: Leave her. She has failed us one too many times.
