Tropes

  • Bilingual Bonus: "Ekitai Rashku" means "Stay liquid" in Japanese.
  • Death Glare: Lynch gives Luca one because of a deal he cut with someone who had a key piece of evidence that she now has to honour.
  • Defector from Decadence: It turns out the warrant for Kenji's arrest was issued after he initially agreed to testify against against the Yakuza in exchange for protection for himself and his girlfriend, only to get cold feet and flee to L.A. because he feared the police couldn't protect him from the Yakuza's retribution.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Kenji has a girlfriend he loves, is quite protective of his foster mother and is willing to fight the Yakuza hit squad that comes to kill him when they threaten to burn down the orphanage where he grew up (with the children inside).
  • Fantastic Racism: Tan experiences a little of it during his time in Tokyo. The Tokyo Police Chief, after being called out over it by Hicks, apologises to Tan, admitting his parents and grandparents were vocal in their reasons for disliking the Chinese.
  • Generic Cop Badges: The uniforms of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police are correct, but the emblems on their peaked caps don't show the MPD's Asahikage seal. Which is ironic since the episode was filmed on location in Tokyo.
  • Screw Your Ultimatum!: The head of the Yakuza clan targeting Kenji demands his surrender or they'll kill all the children in the orphanage. Kenji retorts that if he does, they'll kill him and then the children, then starts shooting.
  • Tattooed Crook: Kenji, to be expected, given he's a former Yakuza enforcer.
  • Yakuza: The episode revolves around finding a former Yakuza enforcer willing to testify against his former employers before they kill him.
