Recap / Ridonculous Race None Down Eighteen To Go Part 1

Go To

18 teams of two set off from Toronto, Canada in the first episode of The Ridonculous Race. There, they must either climb 144 flights of stairs to the top of the CN tower or take the elevator there and skywalk around the outside of the tower. After that, the teams have to zipline to the airport, where they'll head to the next destination.

Tropes:

  • Continuity Nod: Brody's leg cramps and his overreaction to it is similar to Geoff's leg injury he had in "Up The Creek".
  • Eiffel Tower Effect: The first challenge takes place at the CN Tower, the most iconic symbol of the Toronto skyline.
  • Elevator Buttons Mash: Dwayne does this by accident.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Each team gets one at the beginning.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: Pete, says that despite their age, he and Gerry still thought that doing the race was a good idea. Only for both of them to realise how much younger the rest of the cast is, he relents and says that it was a terrible idea.
  • Gasshole: Owen, like in the original series. In this episode, he farts in the elevator, disguting everyone, except for Noah who's gotten used to it at this point.
  • It's All Upstairs From Here: One option for the first challenge: walking up a massive flight of stairs to the top of the CN Tower.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Gerry throws Pete off their Zipline and falls seconds later.
  • No-Sell: Noah doesn't even react when Owen farts out the elevator.
  • Plot Hole: The Daters (Stephanie & Ryan) and Reality TV Pros (Noah & Owen) come in 10th and 11th place respectively, yet they're seen on the first flight which was only for the first six teams.
  • The Precarious Ledge: The other option for the first challenge: taking an elevator up the tower and skywalking around one of these at the top.
  • Product Placement: Leonard and Tammy can be seen drinking Pepsi.
  • Shout-Out:
    • While Don introduces Toronto to the audience, former Toronto mayor, Rob Ford can be seen walking past.
    • Two of the shows Noah and Owen appeared on were Meltdown Kitchen and Scare Tractor.

Owen meets Leonard

Owen is a gassy Big Fun who thinks positively of everyone he meets. Leonard's delusional LARPing manages to be too weird for him.

How well does it match the trope?
