"If I lose my job, I have nothing! You hear me! I have nothing!"

When Mordecai and Rigby break the park's golf cart, Benson is sent to get a replacement as it's still under warranty. But Mordecai and Rigby come along for the ride, screw up, and Benson finally lets the duo have it over their irresponsible antics.

This episode provides examples of...

  • Astonishingly Appropriate Interruption: While driving with the cart to the dealership to have it repaired, Benson mutters to himself that as soon as he gets back to the Park, he is going to fire Mordecai and Rigby for starting this whole mess in the first place. But that last part is when the duo peek up from the backseat and look at Benson, causing him to check them in the rearview mirror and to scream their names in fury.
  • The Atoner: Mordecai and Rigby decide to bring the cart to the dealership themselves in order to make up for wasting Benson's valuable time.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Mordecai and Rigby's major flaw which causes the conflict of the episode.
  • Berserker Tears: Benson shouts at the duo when they get distracted playing video games, then cries at the thought of losing his own job because of them.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Mordecai, Rigby, and Benson manage to get the cart to the dealership after taking a shortcut, but due to the perilous nature of said shortcut, their success comes with few prices — the cart is now in an even worse state than before, the truck has also taken considerable damage, and the trio has to be taken home by ambulance as a result of enduring some injuries.
  • Break the Cutie: This happens to Benson of all people when the duo's irresponsibility puts his job in further jeopardy.
  • Call-Back: The games in the arcade are the same ones as the ones mentioned in Just Set Up The Chairs.
  • Chekhov's Skill: The duo officially decides to use their "extreme karting" to the test by bringing the cart to the dealership on time through Highway 13.
  • Conjunction Interruption: While being chewed out by Maellard, Benson tries to defend himself, but Maellard will have none of it.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Benson goes into this territory after Mordecai and Rigby waste time by playing video games instead of doing their job, putting him at risk of losing his job.
Benson: Now if you'll excuse me, I need to take my last bathroom break as an employed man.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Mordecai and Rigby decide to go to the arcade to play video games for a while, only to end up in there for so long that they barely have enough time to go to the dealership before it closes.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Benson's Jerk with a Heart of Gold moment below is reminiscent of a parent explaining why they discipline their children.
  • Heh Heh, You Said "X": "Buttzland".
  • Idiot Ball: Mordecai has it in his wings this time, as he's the one who decides that he and Rigby go and play video games while Benson is asleep. Then they get so distracted that it's morning, and Benson wakes up and has to drag them out.
  • Jerkass Has a Point:
    • Benson is harsh towards the duo per usual, but it's justified on account of their carelessness getting him in trouble with Mr. Maellard. Benson even admits that he's only harsh because of their poor performance.
    • Mr. Maellard punishing Benson is undeniably Misplaced Retribution. However, given that Benson is the duo's superior and is supposed to keep them in line, his reprimanding of Benson is not without merit.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Benson doesn't hate Mordecai and Rigby, but hates some of the things they do, and cares for their future, so he pushes them to do better.
  • Misplaced Retribution: When he sees Mordecai and Rigby joyride on a golf cart and damage it by steering it into a tree, Maellard gets furious at Benson over it instead, and forces him to drive the cart to the nearest dealership day and night many miles from the Park to have it fixed.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Mordecai and Rigby screw up so hard that they make Benson cry while he yells at them for being irresponsible and selfish. As Benson goes to the restroom to take what he believes may be "(his) last bathroom break as an employed man", even they have to admit that this time there's no way they can deny or shrug off how badly their actions have affected him.
Mordecai: Dude, we really messed up.
  • Never My Fault: When Benson drags the duo out of the arcade, Mordecai tries to justify himself by saying that there were no windows in the arcade for them to know how long they were in there, even though he shouldn't have decided to go inside in the first place, as he was supposed to go straight to the dealership instead. Benson calls him (and Rigby) out on this, saying that excuses aren't going to cut it.
  • Not So Above It All: Benson dancing with the guys to electro-pop.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: One of the rare moments where Benson cries, demonstrating how much the duo has screwed him over with their irresponsibility.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Benson was already pissed at the duo's incompetence, which put his job in jeopardy. The moment he snaps is when the two waste several hours goofing around in the arcade, depriving them of the chance to bring the cart to the dealership before it closes and placing Benson at further risk of losing his job.
Mordecai: How long were we in there?
Benson: Hours! You were in there for hours! Now we're never gonna make it to the dealership in time! It closes in 30 minutes!
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Benson famously gives a scathing one to Mordecai and Rigby after they get distracted for far too long.
Mordecai: We're sorry! We didn't know it was daytime! There aren't any windows in the arcade!
Benson: Excuses, excuses! HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO TRUST YOU WHEN ALL YOU GIVE ME ARE EXCUSES?! WHEN ARE YOU TWO GONNA LEARN THAT YOUR ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES?!?!?! CONSEQUENCES THAT AFFECT OTHER PEOPLE?!?!?! (his fury gives way to sadness) Like me! Don't you two understand? I'm about to lose my job! You may not care about keeping your jobs, but I care about keeping mine … 'cause if I lose my job … I have nothing! You hear me?! I HAVE NOTHING! (breaks down into a sob while Mordecai and Rigby just stand there, horrified by what their actions have led to) Now if you'll excuse me, I need to take my last bathroom break as an employed man.
Mordecai: Dude, we really messed up.
