Recap / Refractions Day With The Felnas

Go To

A Day With The Felnas is, chronologically speaking, the very first Albedo side-story ever published (it was published in 1992 in the Refractions official fanzine), and the only one series creator Steve Gallacci has complete authorship in all the aspects of its creation (art, script, etc)

This side-story takes place during Erma and her younger brother Tasak's childhoods when they went with their mother Eda to go shopping within downtown Annahport, the capital of the planet Dornthant. It also works as both a explanation about how Erma's life was when she was a kid, her relationship with her brother when they were kids and her relationship with her mother, and also how many aspects of the civilian life in the Albedo universe works.

This side-story provides examples of the following:

  • Alpha Bitch: Erma was really mean with Tasak when she was a little girl.
  • Big Stupid Doo Doo Head: Erma calls Tasak a "poop" because he was eating like a pig during lunch.
  • The Cutie: Tasak was adorable as a kid. Also overlaps with Cute Kitten, as he is a Feline as well.
  • Day in the Life: Basically, a day in the life of the Felna family, before their lives changed for the worse years later.
  • Ojou: This is probably the only part of the whole story when Erma really behaves like one. In fact, and by Translation Convention, as none of the characters speaks English or any other human language, The Net address Erma by their in-universe equivalent of "ojou-sama" (young lady), something explained by the narrator in a side-note when the Net calls Erma as "Miss Felna", a fact confirmed by Word of God.
  • Out of Focus: Kanoc doesn't appear in this side-story, albeit he's mentioned by the narrator regarding the backgrounds of the Felna family.
  • Potty Emergency: Eating all those candies caused Tasak to have to go the hygiene unit (bathroom) with Erma having to keep an eye on him, much for Tasak's disgust.
  • Sweet Tooth: Both Tasak and Erma loved candies a lot as a kids, like many human kids as in Real Life.
  • Walls of Text: While present in the regular story as well, Gallacci really goes full-force with this trope in this side-story, as he needed to explain lots and lots of background information who was never fully explained in the comics so far.
