The Grandest Canyon

After the Petersons return from their vacation to the Grand Canyon, they force the Propulsions to watch a slideshow about it. The Propulsions get inspired to go to a grander canyon - Valles Marineris on Mars.
  • Boring Vacation Slideshow: The Petersons get back from their vacation in Arizona and force the Propulsions to watch a slideshow of their trip to the Grand Canyon. It includes an embarrassing photo of Mr. Peterson and Mitchell wearing matching canyon hats, causing Mitchell to pout in the photo. All it does is leave Jet and Carrot perplexed as to what the Grand Canyon is.
  • Call-Back: This episode references "How Come the Moon Changes the Shape?", where Mindy mishears "perspective" as "respective", only this time Mindy can say it and it's her friend Lillian who has the same trouble with the word. Mindy lampshades the situation.
  • Dramatic Irony: Mitchell and Mr. Peterson aren't aware that the canyon the Propulsions went to is actually on Mars.
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: At the end of the episode, all the characters laugh.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: Carrot joins the gang's trip to Valles Marineris.
  • One-Liner, Name... One-Liner: This exchange about Sunspot.
Carrot: You ever get the feeling there's something he's not telling us?
Jet: All the time, dad, all the time.
  • Spoiled Brat: When Mitchell and his father look at the Propulsions' pictures of Valles Marineris, he whines that the hats that the group wore in the picture were not at the store that was at the canyon that the Petersons went to. He was also not too happy about wearing an awkward canyon hat.
  • Two Lines, No Waiting: The episode's subplot involves Mindy and Lillian digging a canyon in a sandbox.
  • Who's on First?: Carrot serves Mr. Peterson a chocolate cake, which he calls a "Carrot cake". Mr. Peterson points out that it isn't a carrot cake, but Carrot points out that he called it a carrot cake because Carrot is his name.
  • You Remind Me of X: Sean remarks that Mindy reminds him of a young him, but Sydney tells Sean that "you are still young you."

A Visit to the Planetarium

Jet begs Sean and Sydney to take him to the DSA's planetarium show. They comply, on the condition that he keeps his alien identity a secret. But when Jet notices that the show is out of date, he just can't help himself.
  • Anachronism Stew: Lampshaded during the planetarium show, which includes Pluto as a planet, after it had been demoted, something Sydney points out.
  • Animation Bump: The animation used during the Milky Way song is much better than usual. It is notable because for the first 15 episodes, the show had rather clunky animation.
  • Dramatic Irony: Jet sings a bombastic song about the Milky Way to entertain the kids at the planetarium. Mr. Peterson, the curator, is away. When he comes back and sees the kids cheering, he doesn't know why they're so happy, because the planetarium film is the same as it's always been, unaware that Jet entertained them.
  • Foreshadowing: The planetarium show refers to Pluto as "little frozen Pluto". This is foreshadowing to the episode "From Pluto with Love".
  • Large Ham: Jet performs a loud, over-the-top Broadway number about the Milky Way.
  • Loophole Abuse: Sydney and Sean say that Jet can't say he's from Bortron 7. Jet sings a song at the planetarium and mentions Bortron. However, he never actually said he was from Bortron 7.
  • Pluto Is Expendable: The show didn't mention Pluto at all up until this point, where Pluto is still listed as a planet in the planetarium show. The controversy surrounding Pluto does get touched upon briefly when Sydney points out that the film was made before Pluto's demotion.
  • Puppy-Dog Eyes: Jet and Sunspot make puppy-dog eyes at Sean and Sydney in order to convince them to let them go the planetarium show.
