Orbital Station is the second mission in the Nintendo 64 version of Quake II. The unit was given a name when the whole campaign was ported into the 2023 remastered edition.

After making his way onto the station, Viper is tasked with blowing it up and escaping in one piece.

The levels of this unit are "Orbital Defence" and "Docking Station".

This unit shows examples of:

  • Broken Bridge: Access to the Docking Station in "Orbital Defence" is locked by a forcefield.
  • Death from Above: Two in "Orbital Defence":
    • In the room with the crystal and the frying circuits, the first time you enter, an Iron Maiden will make themselves known by firing rockets at your position from the high ground.
    • In the Shuttle bay, a Tank attacks you from the upper curved bridge.
  • Monster Closet:
    • In "Orbital Defence", right after picking up the three Explosive Charges, a pair of Berserkers emerge from what used to be a solid wall.
    • Placing two of the three Explosive Charges in "Docking Station" opens a wall in the Black Hole room with a Berserker and an Iron Maiden awaiting for you.
  • New Weapon Target Range: The Chaingun you pick in "Orbital Defence" is quite effective at stopping Berserkers. So, naturally, once you pick it up, two of them come from the staircase you just descended from.
  • Permanently Missable Content: One of the last secrets in "Orbital Defence" grants access to an early Rocket Launcher. You need to enter into the shuttle bay before it closes its door, otherwise you cannot get in again. The 2023 remastered version adds an invisible wall around the ship, making obtaining said secret more difficult without Save Scumming.
  • Rewarding Vandalism: One of the secrets in "Orbital Defence" requires you to break an upper vent with a Suspiciously Cracked Wall. It contains a Megahealth.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: The overall unit objective requires you to pick three Explosive Charges in "Orbital Defence" and place them in the three generators in "Docking Station".
  • Teleporting Keycard Squad:
    • "Orbital Defence":
      • After descending the stairs, picking up the Chaingun spawns two Berserkers behind you.
      • After disabling the Gravity Generator, a Berserker comes running from the staircase you went from. Another one awaits at the Chaingun area, another one at the top of the staircase, and a Flyer awaits in the corridor to the first room.
      • After getting the three Explosive Charges, in addition to the two Berserkers you have to face three Flyers in the shuttle bay, and a Berserker and two Iron Maidens in the corridor afterwards.
    • "Docking Station": Just getting in the room with the second generator spawns a Berserker coming from the corridor you came from.
  • Timed Mission: You're given two minutes to escape from the Docking Station after you placed the three charges in "Docking Station" before everything explodes.
