Recap / Power Rangers Cosmic Fury E 2 Beyond Repair

Returning to Dinohenge to think of a new plan, Amelia and Dr. Lani try to find a way to bring Ollie back while Javi adjusts to his new situation. But they must move fast as Lord Zedd is approaching fast.

Episode Tropes:

  • An Aesop: Focus on the facts. Instead of getting overwhelmed by the scope of your problems, take things one step on a time and prioritize what you can do to improve the situation.
  • Artificial Limbs: Javi is given a new robotic arm to replace the one he lost in the previous episode.
  • Big Red Button: There is a big red button (that is covered) on a Dinohenge console Solon and Aiyon forbid anyone from pressing. They do end up pressing it though, when they are confronted by a Squid Drill.
  • Blind Jump: The reason Solon never pressed the big red button before; it jumps the base to Erridus, the farthest uninhabited but liveable planet, which is apparently a good 30 million lightyears from Earth. And it doesn't work in reverse.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Warden Garcia brags about his daughter and her girlfriend, who are in training to compete in the Pan Global Games.
    • When Izzy tells Fern about her trip to space, Fern asks if the Rangers are working with NASADA.
    • Billy gets caught up on the events of last season when Amelia mentions that the team managed to save her mom and dad when they turned evil.
  • Depower: Lord Zedd destroys most of the Dinohenge statues, cutting the Rangers off from their powers for good. He only spares Ollie's statue as the latter convinces Lord Zedd to let him join his side.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: After Ollie leaves the medical room, the security feed showing him destroying things in a rage, he comes out with a calm smile and tells Amelia he's changed. Amelia doesn't buy it for a second, both due to seeing the evidence and that she can read his mind. It honestly sounds like Evil Ollie has turned into an abusive lover who does a 180 to gaslight their partner, telling her what she wants to hear in the hopes that it will cancel out her own observations of the situation. She loves him (she even breaks The "I Love You" Stigma while talking to him), but because of what Zedd has done, Ollie cannot love her back until the spell is broken.
  • Dramatic Irony: Warden Garcia boasts about his children's bright futures to the Green Ranger, which gives Izzy the terrible idea to downplay her problems to Fern.
  • Faceplanting into Food: Basic Rafkonian dining etiquette dictates that you slam your entire head into your Flargon cake. As such, diners at Aiyon's Cafe are given complimentary bibs with their dessert orders.
  • Foreshadowing: Two costume-related ones. Amelia wears a red crop top under her pink jacket, and Fern wears an orange shirt under her pale purple jacket.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: In the establishing shot of Aiyon's Cafe, we see the menu, backed with jokes and Continuity Nods: Flargon cake, ice cream served in Raf-cones, Santaurra's slices, tea (available hot or cool-cool-coolio), lichen stew, and solono-stew for pets.
  • How Do I Shot Web?: Javi has quite a hill to climb as he learns how to use his new mechanical arm. He flails around with superhuman strength and sends his sister flying across the room, where she nearly crashes into the Big Red Button.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Fern learns that Javi is a Power Ranger and that he has a metal arm now, and later learns about the others when she's stuck in Dinohenge.
    • Billy learns that Ollie is not Amelia's first evilized loved one, having fought her own parents last season.
  • It's Personal: Amelia is much angrier at Doodrip than she would be at any other Monster of the Week because of what he did to Ollie.
  • No-Respect Guy: Doodrip, who was unceremoniously fired by Lord Zedd last episode, sets out to destroy the Rangers in a bid to impress the other villains enough to re-hire him. Zedd plans to just let Doodrip be the bait for his own scheme against the Rangers.
  • Propaganda Piece: Jane and J-Borg offer to publish some disinformation on the intergalactic internet saying that the entire population of Earth has "gone on vacation to Venus", hoping Zedd will see it and attack the wrong planet. Warden Garcia is quick to point out that Zedd will turn right back to Earth as soon as he sees that Venus is empty, but Jane is convinced that the idea has merit.
  • "Ray of Hope" Ending: Zayto is still missing, Javi's going through a Heroic BSoD over losing his arm, all but the Triceratops statue is destroyed, Fern accidentally ends up joining them 30 million lightyears away, and the plan to undo the brainwashing on Ollie has been foiled. Still, there's hope to be found: the other Rangers are still alive, Billy has his tech know-how for support, and they just tackle their problems one at a time.
  • Something We Forgot: During the fighting, Javi teleports Fern into the command center and she goes to the bathroom after the teleportation nausea. Javi completely forgets that she's still there when Dinohenge gets sent to another planet.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Javi and Izzy's mom talking to Fern about Izzy's whereabouts leads Fern to bike to Dinohenge just as Ollie and the Zentinals get there, meaning that Fern ends up in the crossifre.
  • Teleportation Sickness: Fern gets this after Javi teleports them to Dinohenge. Unfortunately, this means she gets trapped with the other rangers when she gets teleported to another planet.
  • Tempting Fate: The final lines of the episode has Izzy brighten the mood by stating what happened to them is no big...then she's interrupted by Fern.
